It depends what made them so big, it could have happened several different ways. In addition to the advice already given to you, your resolution could have changed.
Also, try right-clicking on desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced > DPI settings.
Good luck.

Try right mouse button clicking on your desktop and go to display. I believe there's a spot there that says "use large icons".
same with the start menu. Just right mouse button click on the start menu and go to preferences.
You also can go to your Control Panel/Display and make your resolution a little higher which will reduce everything (including print) on your desktop. One of those things should do the trick.

Okay, theseare two ways possible.
First on your mouse, depending on what type too, see if you can depress the rollerball on top. That is the one you scroll with. If you do see if a + sign pops up. Then roll back or forth till the size is righ and then press the roll wheel again and you are back to normal.
Second, go to START, click CONTROL PANEL, then click DISPLAY, then click on SETTINGS. Then set up the resolution you want.
Now in the FIrefox Browser go to view located at the top and you can adjust the letters there.
TIP OF THE DAY: Get the Mozilla/Firefox browswer and once you get the hang of it, it is awesome compared to IE7.

Encountered exactly this problem 2 days ago. Followed your tip to run Explorer. -- then AVG 8.5 threat detection pops up saying Trojan horse downlader generic.8.AGCR Have disconnected the machine from network while I investigate further. Any further advice will be most welcome. UPDATE: This was on someone elses computer who had asked me to look at. I found the file msas.exe and various files I could not delete. Fronm googling it is clear that msas is part of MS antispyware 2009, and this is a nasty which pretends to be from Microsoft and tries to spoof you into parting with money to fix the problem. Well, deleting a few files did not work, so I thought I had better do a clean reinstall. I checked the external back up disc and found the owner had not backed up for a few months so I awaited the owners return to findout what files needed to be preserved before doing a reinstall. The owner has returned and we are presently backing up my documents, but the the owner now reveals that he was taken in by the spoof messages that looked as if they were from microsoft and he paid $45 to the crooks. he has now cancelled the card and is trying to get the money back..... Meanwhile I am going to have to reinstall his system.

Right click on a vacant space in your desktop. Press the 'Settings' tab in the 'Display Properties' window that opens (the tab is at the extreme right at the top), select Advanced' tab at the bottom right, put your DPI settings at normal from the General tab. Click OK and reboot your computer. That should do it.
