Im a little confused about this. I am having a reception where kids are welcomed as well. Would I have to make place cards for every individual including kids or is there anyway that I can avoid making a few place cards. Could it be done do that the place cards go by family and not individual? Im just not sure, Help!!

If you are doing place cards, you need to have a place card for every member of the family or a generic seating chart that states "Smith Family, table 6."

If you are having kids attend (and kids can often opt out at the last minute or change their mind-- thus ruining your perfect seating chart), I would suggest you skip place cards. Many times, place cards just serve to put people with others uncomfortably and create awkward situations because guests never feel like they can move. With children attending, I would consider letter parents decide where they want to sit and where best to put the youngsters.

(side note: if you do go with place cards, seat families with children near the dance floor so the kids have an accessible place to stretch their little legs.)

You can do whatever you like. To save doing individual cards, yes you could make four cards with 'Jones Family' and put each card in a place setting, and then the Joneses can decide where each one wants to sit. Five cards for the 'Henderson Family', 3 for the 'Wilson Family' and so on. You would still have to have a card at every place setting.

You can make seating place cards for each family or each individual. I know a lot of people sit kids separately at children's tables, but we sat the children with their parents who supervise them and made their plates since we had a buffet and no special menu for children. We didn't have place cards. Our seating assigments (by family or single adults) were given to our hostesses who directed guests to their tables as they arrived.

The way I did my seating is without cards. I had a chart made up and put everyones name printed on it. It was in alphabetical order. This saved me a ton of time...

Usually family ( close ) is seated with or near the bride/groom...lesser family (aunts, uncles.cousins, etc.) next, then friends (wedding party with the bride and groom) next....usually kids are in the BACK of the room, with someone to keep an eye on them, no place cards...

seat, man, woman, around table, couples together (unless one is with the wedding party then they sit up front with the lesser family or friends) always alternate man, woman. (all parents together...all grandparents together, etc...)
You make individual place cards or make family ones...whichever you want/need....(usually if you make individual ones, they take them as souveniers)

I am going to do it that way. I thought it would save on waisting some card that will end up in the trash. and not having to buy so many. So i am going to put on the card mr and mrs. so and so and fam. table 1

You can personalize place cards for them or you can just put guest on the card...depends on how personal you are with the kids!
