OK never use alcohol or hydrogen peroxide they do kill bacteria, but they also kill white blood cells, which are the cells that fight infection and heel wounds.
You need to clean the piercing with, non-scented, antibacterial soap, dial is the best. Clean it twice a day, while in the shower is the best way, and never touch it with your hands. They are a breading ground for bacteria.
I've had my belly button pierced for 8 years and had no problems following these rules.

they shoudl have told ou all abotu the aftercare for the piercing....
but NEVER USE!!! neosporin, alcohol, or hydrogen peroxide as they are too strong of chemicals... they will irritate your piercing further, cause more scarring, make you piercing harder to heal (longer healing duration) and could give you an infection. since you are killing all of the good bacteria and tissues with these products
aftercare: (for my navel piercing) was
use antibacterial soap after dont showering, was the area (a mild one like dial is great)
use aftercare pierce solution.. if they didnt give you any then go back and ask for some,, (dont use bactine either! some shops tell you to go by bactine but this is also another strong chemical) if you cnt find any (pleas dont go to the stores in the mall and get it! theres is no good)
you will be fine. just use the antibacterial soap and do these sea salt soaks with warm distilled water and sea salt \
here are some instructions....
do these once or twice a day for 15 minutes at a time.. they will sooth your piericng. (the pain) the warm water causes bllod circulation in the area. the warm water also drains the piercing (discharge) that is a natural part of the healing process. mone is 7 months old and is still gettign crusty! eww. lol
please do not touch the piercing at all. if you have to make sue you hands are clean. also do not twist the jewelry or anytign when cleaining it!

but that is the aftercare that they told me! remember dont eve use the products listed above! they are horrible for piercings PERIOD!

Um, what kind of craphole piercing studio pierces someone and then doesn't tell them how to care for it!?
Anyhow, get some Satin or Provon soap, these can be found online at places like Tribalectic.com or any GOOD piercing studio. Wash your piercing one to 2 times a day with this. Dry with a paper towel to avoid bacteria. You can also use non-iodized SEA salt to clean it. Mix 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt in 8 oz (1 cup) of very warm water. Place a glass or mug with the solution over your navel for 5-10 minutes until the water becomes cool. Remove it, rinse with plain water and dry with a paper towel. You have to keep your piercing clean for the entire healing process. Navels generally take a bare MINIMUM of 6 months to well over a year to fully heal. Avoid pools, hot tubs, lakes, oral contact and touching it with dirty hands during this time.
Email me if you need more help.

saline, use the non iodised salt you can buy and dissolve some in a cup with water. Or you can buy premade saline at CVS. DO NOT BUY CONTACT SOLUTION it contains other chemicals that can harm your piercing. Hyroden peroxide and alcohol will also cause that nasty bubbling and or scarring in your skin (for those who will undoubtedly suggest it) as it is killing the white blood cells at your piercing site that are trying to heal it. Clean it 2/3 times a day and whatever you do DO NOT TOUCH IT. You may do it without even realising sometimes but just leave it alone as you risk infection fiddling with it while healing. Also moving it about a lot can cause some scarring and will make it swell frequently.

bactine. white bottle. green cap. red dot on the front. in the first aid aisle of any pharmacy. ONLY USE THIS ONCE A DAY IN THE MORNING OR YOU WILL DRY IT OUT TOO MUCH! use a shot glass and put like 2 squirts of bactine and a lil water in it till its half full of bactine/water. lean forward. put shot glass around piercing against stomach tightly. lean back. let the piercing soak for about 30 seconds. lean forward and remove shotglass. pour out. after tha during the day. wash your hands thoroughly and use some antibacterial soap like dial, mixed with water and rinse it off. DO NOT TOUCH IT WITHOUT WASHING HANDS FIRST! DO NOT PICK AT CRUSTIES! DO NOT CHANGE JEWELRY FOR AT LEAST 3 WEEKS! YOU WILL THANK ME LATER! the guy/gal who did it should change it for free at a shop. if you did it or your friend, then it may already be infected. especially if you used anything other than a new sterile piercing needle to do it (no matter your friends say) not all infections need medical attention. some you never even know you have it. your body just gets rid of it. BUT THE INFECTIONS THAT YOU KNOW YOU HAVE WILL KILL YOU! don't risk it. if you think it may be infected, take it out, let it heal for a few months, and try again. don't die over a belly button ring. no matter how cute it is.

Sea salt sweetie. I used a mixture of sea salt and warm water and soaked all my piercings (nipples, belly button, clitoris) twice a day for about a week. That is all you need. It is a bit time consuming but it works! DO NOT put any neosporin or polysporin cream or anything like that on there. Just let it heal naturally.

you should use something called hydrogen peroxide it is a brilliant cleaner for piercings and if you water it down you could use it as mouthwash and facial clenser i have used it for all 3 and totally recommend it you get 2 strenghts but i would say both were good but i must admit the stronger the better.
