I woke up this morning with a sore throat. As the day went on, it hurts alot more than it did, it's all red and swollen, I have a headache and it feels like a pain in the ears, and my body is sore. Is this just strep or maybe the flu? I havent called a dr yet, because I dont have health insurance, so it would be really expensive...

Since this is strep season and your symptoms are very suspicious, you really should go get a rapid strep test done. The true flu is respiratory in nature. There are some viruses out there that are mimicking strep, but it is very hard to tell them apart without the strep test. I know it can be expensive but it is worth it. Strep left untreated can cause kidney damage. Hope you feel better! Good luck!

Well, I would say that if you can get up to type this question, then it is not the flu. Someone once explained that if there was £500 on the doorstep, with a cold you would stagger down and pick it up, with flu you would not care a toss! So, maybe the strep throat has caused something else, and it is time to get to the doc, but as theothers said, keep warm and get loads of fluids into you - don't eat unless you fancy it, but keep the liquid levels high.

Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. More details and home remedies available at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

fxy,
one of the easiest ways to tell if you have strep throat is to look down your throat and see if there are white splotches or specks.... that is a definate indicator of strep.... since you have pain in your ears, i would assume that is from a fever... judging from your symptoms i would say you were coming down with a bad case of the flu

This sounds like the flu! Drink lots of fluids and ride it out. The doctor wont be able to give you much to make you feel better. Sorry! Hope you feel better soon!
