Please contribute your reasons but, something I saw at Costco today set me back a pace or two -- great big buckets of emergency food. That's right -- for $109.00 and change you can get 278 meals from this bucket. Just add water and boil -- already spiced and everything. People are looking for disasters hot and heavy.

You suffer from apocalyptic fantasies perhaps. It's common amongst the world weary Christians. Sadly for People with this disorder it leads to disappointment for You see the world has been ending ever since I was born and I was born a long long time ago and it has yet to end nor will it while I draw breath and I shall be here for quite some time yet. this You find in the fullness of Your days, but being Christian You'll be able to forget it all and move on to the next fancy. Enjoy it, God and me think it's funny!!!!

Mormans keep a year supply of food and water in their homes. It's a smart idea because there are many possible disasters.

It never hurts to be prepared for an emergency. One that can happen to anyone is losing a job. If you've got a good supply of food, then all you have to worry about is the rent.

The second coming of Christ will not be a disaster, rather, it will be the greatest event this world has ever witnessed.
This world will never end. It will change and it will be much different, but it will never end. Jesus will set up His kingdom here and this earth will be renewed. The faithless are storing up food for the end of the world. The faithful are praying and asking Christ Jesus to come quickly.
God Bless You.....Peace.

How long has this been going on? A long time. Many religions teach survivalism. I believe that this is a common thing. In the 1950s the whole country built bomb shelters and stock piled them with gear. It's a small market blitz.

Not just religious, but cultural and governmental.

The epidemics like AIDS, the hurricanes we had, the tsunami, the war are all signs of the Tribulation. And some think Bush is the Anthichrist. The Tribulation is supposed to lead to the end of the world.

I don't think that's true. What's going on isn't near bad enough to be the Tribulation.

Thanks Midge. I don't believe in any of that the end is near stuff. The end has ALWAYS been near and yet we go on (thnk God). But why "buy" the emergency food buckets in case the "fit hits the shan" when you could always run down to Costco and get your fill of emergency buckets when it does. People just throw awy their $$ I tell ya.

Don't let that trouble you, sweetie. The end is not gonna happen for at least 1007yrs. (The 7yr tribulation period after the rapture whenever that occurs, and the 1000yr millennium; when the Lord will rule and reign on the Earth).

You should read the fiction book "The Prophet of Yonwood" by Jeanne DuPrau. If you read it you will notice that the crisis which leads to the end of the world in that book has rotts in our time. We can see the same signs everday as national tensions rise.

Hello Midge;

I am among those member who feel the same way as you do.
It is a sign of the times. Just like Jesus said. All of creation is groaning against mankind, because of our sins against the Creator. All one needs is to look at the TV news casts or read the papers. The morals of mankind are at an all time low. Unfortunately, we have become so calloused that even the worst crimes hardly bother us any more.
Here is another flash! A certain communications company whose name for now will remain secrect. Is working on an implant the size of a grain of rice. It will contain all of your personal documents and financial details. This will replace money and eliminate the need for bulky paperwork. It will be implanted into everyone by use of a medical injection. The mark of the Beast is coming!

The supreme court continues to uphold the rights of criminals over those of the citizens. High profile individuals like those in the Enron case. Basically get a slap on the hand. They get big name lawyers to fight for them. They have the money and influence to continue to make appeals. They exhaust the competition until the other side gives up and they win by default.

It is just going to get worse. As Judgment day draws closer.
You talked about people stockpiling food and things of that nature. In the 1950's thousands of home built bomb shelters. As if they would help. It's fear! I don't know if you read Scripture or for that matter believe in it.
But read these words, spoken by Our Lord. " And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ: and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation sahll rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers place." Skipping to vs. 14 is the clue to these predictions. " And the gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come." Matthew 24:3-7,14.
Another clue as to when these things might increase is found in vs. 32. " Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves,ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors." The fig tree in this parable refers to Israel! Watch the events of that country. As she (Israel) goes, so goes the world.

Do not panic, as of this moment, "the gospel of the kingdom" has not yet reached the whole world.

Jesus gave this very sound advise. "Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come." vs. 42.

Read all of chapters 23-25. For a fuller understanding.

In closing these are His word to us regarding what is to come.
" And watch I say unto you I say unto all, Watch." Mark 13:37
