Treatments for cancer?

My relative was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer, and I have been looking ofr treatments. I don't really need a webpage about it, since I've found plenty of those, but I do need treatments that have worked of people whom you personally know.

Aside from surgery (hysterectomy), radiation therapy, and chemotherapy, what treatments are there? Any breakthrough techniques that are minimally damaging to her? I know her survival odds are slim, since she's 86 years old, but I would like to do everything possible to help her.

If you have any success stories or successful treatments (doesn't matter which country or which type of approach), that would be very helpful.

She is an extremely active woman. I'm not sure what she wants, because that's not easy to find out from her, but she has definitely been a strong lady all her life, always taking walks, cooking, and taking the bus wherever she needs to go. She's not very frail at all, so that's why I would like to find a good treatment for her.

Well chemotherapy isn't anything like it used to be. My mom was diagnosed with lung cancer last May. She went through the chemo and radiation and as of November she was cancer free. They just found a spot in her brain where she hadn't had radiation yet that is cancer.
She's not worried at all about taking the radiation or more chemo. The worst problem she had was her hair falling out and she was severely constipated due to the pain pills. She had a sore throat, food tasted like metal and she was weaker then a dishrag at times but it wasn't anything like we saw my dad go through.
You said you want to hear about new techniques but the new chemo's they have now are targeted to specific types of cancer so you don't have to have a ton of that poison injected into you.
The most painful part of radiation was when they gave her tattoo's so they'd know where to aim the beam. It looks like tiny little party dots.
I'm so sorry for your aunt and cancer isn't fun no matter what kind it is but it's much more curable then ever before.
My dad suffered so much (colon/rectal cancer that spread to his stomach). He had so many surgeries he told his doctor to just put a zipper in. He lost his hair, he was so weak he couldn't walk, he aged 30 years in 2 years battling this disease. He couldn't eat because of the nausea.. it was pitiful.
My mother didn't even suffer 1/100th what my dad did and believe me we're grateful. Twenty years makes a big difference.
Try not to worry so much if they do the surgery, chemo and or radiation. Just be there for her and help her in whatever way you can. Keep her interested in life so she'll keep on fighting but don't let it wear you down too.

She is 86. This is very important to keep in mind.
What does she want? What is her current quality of life? Is she able to walk on her own? Is she active? Is her mind alert and focused? Does she have any pain or other symptoms?
Treatment for cancer is often worse than the disease.
86 can be very frail and she may not be able to handle the terrible treatments.
Again, the most important question is: What does she want? Does she have an advanced directive?

If appropriate, please consider hospice. It is all about choice and what she wants.

Yes, fortunately I do know of some treatments for cancer. I've personally had someone close to me diagnosed with cancer about 6 months ago. 1st of all it is best to take the person off all those doctor recommended treatments, like radiation therapy and chemotherapy. These so called treatments help you and hurt you at the same time. With chemotherapy it helps treat cancer, but your hair falls out and the person has more medical problems. So let me tell you what you do, go to the nearest HEALTH FOOD STORE. Ask if they sell NONI JUICE AND Florescence. These products are natural and don't have any bad side affects because their natural and come from the Earth. Also ask the health food store worker if they know of any other products in their store that can help for the treatment of cancer. Noni juice has worked for my family member that has cancer. It helped stop the spreading of the cancer cells. Also a good diet is called for also. She needs to drink ots of water. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Limit salt and sugar intake.( The
health food store may have a big book in the store describing all the different medicines they have for certain things. Look under CANCER and you should see medicines for cancer.) Also any medicines she's taking you may need to get her off them. The reason is because some of the time doctors give their patients experimental medicine. What I mean by this is that doctors give patients medicine they get from the drug company to see if works. So some of the time doctors use their patents as experiments basically. So try these. I would not suggest radio- or chemotherapy to someone that old, because it might kill her faster than the disease itself. Surgery is also risky, depending on general condition.

For solid tumors, there are experimental treatments using antiangiogenic agents, which are much less arsh than traditionnal chemo. But the protocols that are available are for now for gliomas (brain tumors) and thyroid tumors. And she might be rejected on basis of age.

What I would suggest is a diet plan including all the cancer-fighting foods, while remaining enjoyable for her (no crazy all raw-food diet). The hopes that it will cure her are very slim, but this has no side effects, and at least will keep her healthy.

For someone her age, the best option is to treat mainly the symptoms. This is difficult to accept, to be told by the doctor that the only treatment available will kill you. I know what you are going through. My grandma was diagnosed with leukemia at 80, and my aunt was angry at the doctors for not attempting chemo.

Treatment and possible cure, she can try emu oil gel caps, emu oil kills cancer cells and is safe for the human host without side effects. You could suggest this to her and she inturn could discuss this alternative with her doctor.
