I am young, and healthy, but I seem to have a problem with excessive under arm sweating. I believe it runs in the genes, because my mom has the same problem. I have tried EVERY single deodorant out there, even men's and they don't do the trick. Ive even tried some stuff called Certain Dri, that you put on at night, and it did kind of help, but i got these weird shooting pains in my underarms so I stopped it.. I take a shower, and 20 minutes later my shirt will have a little spot on it under my arms. Even if it is 30 degrees! The problem only gets worse when I am nervous, then my face, hands and feet start sweating too! I hate it! I think its a condition called hyper hydrosis. Does anyone have this? What helps? I know I have to go to the doctor, but I'd like to hear from people that have had this problem.. Especially women, like myself.. Any and all tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am a physician working in a dermatology clinic. I also use Certain Dry myself. my tip for trying that again, is only put on a small amount, once a week, at night. allow it to dry, then put a thick lotion over it like Sarna or aveeno, etc. I would recommend getting your thyroid tested also if you haven't. there is also something you can order called drionic, it's a pad type device which works by an electrical manner (though shouldn't be painful!), and we do the botox in our office, it's annoying, and expensive (though insurance may cover it), and you only have to do it every 6-9 months usually. hope that helps!

Aluminum Chloride from the doctor is what I used... once you use it for a while, you eventually stop sweating so much all the time. I used it 2 times a week for about 3 months, and now I only use it once evey 6-8 months and that's been for the past 4 years!
There's also a product called Odaban that you can buy online without a prescription that is pretty much the same thing but it itches just a little bit more...
I reccommend using is at night before bed- but not right after the shower. Make sure it's been 3-4 hours since you've showered becase you're pores are more sensitive after showering and it can be a bit irritating.

The first therapeutic measure recommended. Aluminum Chloride Hexahydrate (20-25%) in 70-90% alcohol applied in the evening 2-3 times per week. Less effective over time (within months). High incidence of skin irritation. 10% Glutaraldehyde. Good clinical result in 72 hours. Brown discoloration of the skin occurs. Effective in individuals with light to moderate hyperhidrosis, but not always. Must be repeated regularly for life.

As weird as this sounds, go to a doctor, or a dermatologist and ask about getting a botox shot for underarm sweating. I know you think of botox shot for wrinkles, but they are now doing it for excessive sweating.
You can also go to a doctor and they can prescribe deodorant that isn't over the counter. It is obviously stronger stuff and that might work out for you...but defiantly do your research.

Well I use Degree and that works the best for me (OTC), but I have heard of a surgery where they can remove some of the sweat glands under your arms if it's that bad. I don't think it's as invasive as it sounds. Maybe they can even zap some with a laser. That would cut down on the amt. you sweat overall and it'd be permanent. Maybe you want to look into that.

My daughter also has this condition...after trying many over the counter and prescription medications (Aluminum Chloride paste), her dermatologist recommended Botox. She got multiple (10+) small shots under each arm and it worked great. It has lasted about five months and she now needs another dose.

the certain dry does help. and yes, i get the "shooting pains" also. i just deal with it. there are opperations you can have done. they tie up some nurves, or remove them completly. another surgery is botox injections. yes, people do this for hyperhydrosis. i also used baking soda before, that seems to help more than regular deodorant

I can relate because my hands and feet get really wet even when its cold. I can't wear heels because my feet slip because most shoes are slippery. I just ignore it and try to live with it because there isn't really a cure for it, just things that can stop it temporarily. Its annoying but my parents say that it will stop when i get older...hopefully.
