In addition to bananas, Avocados, mangos, papayas, cantaloupe, honeydew, tomatoes, oranges, nuts, milk, potatoes, and beans are all high in potassium. Hopefully there is something in those choices that you like!!! Good luck.

Yes, cramps are caused by lack of calcium or potassium. You as a woman need to be taking a calcium supplement every day so buy one or a multivitamin mineral supplement to take every day. You can take calcium but if you aren't getting enough magnesium, you won't absorb it. It's the same with a lot of the vitamins and minerals. Bananas are good but so are potatoes and green leafy veggies. Milk , yogurt, cheese, green leafy veggies and cottage cheese have calcium. But I would not rely on foods to supply all that you need, eat and then supplement with a vitamin. That way you are doing the best you can do and won't have to worry about it. Having low calcium can be bad for you...calcium controls all your muscles, that means your heart too, it's a muscle. so, it really would be good to just make sure you are getting what you need right? Go tom. and spend the money...store brands are just as good as brand names. Good luck. Stay healthy

I am one of those unlucky people who have terrible "charlie horses" and other cramps in the various muscles in the legs/foot. I've learned to control them by 1) potassium pills (one in the AM and one at night), and 2) once I feel the cramp coming I react by stretching in the other direction....works most of the time and not all the time. You have to react within like 2 seconds or the cramp sets in. Potassium pills have pretty much cured the problem.

I do not know of the fruit, but there is oj with calcium. But what you might want to do when you get them is straighten your leg out as quickly as possible and point your toe at your nose and hold that position until the cramp goes away. This usually happens quicker than jumping on it and this way you do not have the charlie horse in the morning. And if you get them quite often as I used to, you learn to get rid of them almost in your sleep. Good Luck

Yes take a supplement! And drink more water if you can, try eating (if you can stand it) a pinch of salt too before you go to bed, but only if you are drinking plenty of water. When you get them, try massaging the muscle and wiggling your fingers and toes...I don't know why, but it works! Just thinking about a charlie horse makes me unconfortable. I'm sorry you have to deal with that so often! Good luck!

A glass of orange juice has about the same amount of potassium as a banana. You can also take potassium supplements, and there's usually a good amount of potassium in your standard multivitamin.

A doctor told me once that low iron was the culprit and that your really not supposed to rub the cramp that it could make it last longer but to go like to the kitchen sink and brace myself and stretch and hold for like 10 seconds let up repeat until gone.Which i do 1 time , and cramp is gone. I hate cramps ,i know how you feel because i used to get them all the time . GOOD LUCK TO YOU.

Yogurt (which will also give you calcium), sunflower seeds, apricots, cantelope, raisins...all have high potassium.

Also, try taking a multivitamin with iron. Many times cramping is a result of low iron too.

Broccoli is high in potassium. So are potatoes & spinach. If you want quick & easy, head to the store. You can get these supplements over the counter.
