So there's been a runin with headlice in my house and I wanted to make certain that my boyfriend did not get them, as he lives in a different building. He told me that he did not use a spray but washed his bedsheets in hot water and microwaved his pillow. Could this have killed/eradicated any nits present?

Try the dryer, it will be more effective. You won't have to wash all those things. Be sure to redo everything in about a week. This will get rid of anything new that may have hatched but you do need to use the spray if not it is not killing anything that may be on the bed or furniture. Good luck!

First and for most I want to reassure you that head lice is in no way related to personal hygiene. You will want to wash all linen, blankets, towels, hairbrushes, etc that may have came in contact with the nits. You should be able to just wash the pillow (depending on the material that it is made from). Any items that are unable to be laundered can be placed in a large garbage bag and kept there for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks they can be removed. Head lice is a disease of humans and therefore without a human host they will die. Also note that contrary to popular believe, lice can not jump. Also, I am thinking that you may have already got the shampoo, but if not you can get Nix (Permethin 1%) and apply 2 onze to scalp. Leave in for 10 minutes and rinse. Remove the nits with a comb. You may repeat the treatment in 5 to 7 days if any nits are still present. Also, they sell the Nix in a family kit which may be cheaper if there are several people you need treat. Good Luck!

i would think so, but then again i would spray just to be on the safe side alot of that head lice stuff dont work unless you repeat it a few times what i did for my daugher was go thru her hair with a lice comb about every other day and use the shampoo about every week for 2-4 weeks and spray and wash everything at least 2x a week for a few weeks. its alot to do but headlice are miserable so it is well worth it

that is a fact, they will die. it even work with killing off mold spoures if you have any old/antique documents that smell musty. of course make sure the staples are removed so there is no threat of fire. 30 seconds will do it. no need to go more than that.
