The most you can get is all of what you had withheld, plus any refundable credits you're entitled to. Refundable credits that you might get include the Earned Income Credit and the Additional Child Credit. The Additional Child Credit is available under some circumstances to people who can't get their entire Child Tax Credit due to not owing enough in taxes to take all of it - eligiblility depends on income and the number of children. Eligibility for the Earned Income Credit depends on income, filing status and number of children.

depends on your situation, i was in college, working part time, a single parent in income based apartments, on grants for college, I actually came out ahead, it was like 4000 i think, it's been a few years. the irs has programs that will help you file your taxes for free, check on their website or at your library.
