HCTZ and Triamterene are diuretics. They make your body excrete water and salt through increased urination.

They are used to fight edema (fluid retention) in people with congestive heart failure, liver problems, or a specific kidney ailment (nephrotic syndrome).

Triamterene is in a class of drugs called potassium-sparing diuretics (water pills).

This medication is used to treat edema (fluid retention or excess fluid held in body tissues) caused by various conditions, including liver and heart disease. It causes the kidneys to eliminate unneeded water and sodium from the body into the urine, but reduces the loss of potassium.
