I find myself enjoying peoples' opinions and thoughts, but I tend to avoid the bible quotes from christian mythology, as I've seen it all before and much of it seems bizarre. What are your thoughts? Are you actually drawn to read those quotes?

Nope. Because its just more preaching and I don't believe in anything the bible says anyway. Its like citing a paragraph in Le Morte D'Artur.

Its why Christians have been told not to use the bible as their example. Because the bible means nothing to those that don't believe in it.

If they want to prove anything true to someone that doesn't believe in it, then they need to use science and fact to do it.
Words from an ancient book mean absolutely nothing.

If it's a question related to christianity or religion where a bible quote could be relevant I will usually read it, especially if it's in response to a question I posted myself.
I don't read it when there is no reason for the bible to be brought up, or when it's an answer to a question about homosexuality/abortion etc where it's pretty obvious they are just bible bashing.
And yeah it is pretty bizarre :-) the quotes provided as "evidence" usually don't seem to mean what they are trying to say it means.

There are times when a bible quote is justified, but those aren't generally the questions I click on.

They get an instant thumbs down. They don't get read. There's nothing in that book that is going to be proof of anything meaningful, so it's a waste of my time.

Besides, I want to hear people's thoughts. Not cut and pasted quotes.

If somebody can't formulate an opinion or response of their own, and only quotes scripture, I give 'em a thumbs-down and move on. If the person can explain why they feel a particular quote or passage expresses their beliefs, I'll read their response, but if they just let an ancient book do their thinking for them, they're not worth my time.

I'm not atheist nor am I christian or of any denomination, though I believe in God. But those bible quotes tend to put my head spinning. And I'm not an unintelligent person. I never read them, they make no sense to me.

BUT, that doesn't mean that they don't make sense to others. Whatever helps you find your peace is all right with me, as long as you don't harm others in the process.

I'm not an atheist thank God, I don't have the super kind of faith atheist's have to not believe. When I read the kind of question you and so many more like you have posted it reminds me of a Bible verse.

Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge,

I feel sorry for you, because you are to blind to see what you are passing up. Are you so sure that there is no God? We are all going to live for ever, but where?

Jer 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye search for me with all your heart.

That people who quote the scriptures can't really think for themselves. They really on how people thought 2,000 years ago to do the work for them. Which, in my opinion, is a big problem in our society. That more people think like those that lived long ago, instead of living in today's world. Religion doesn't evolve, it's forever stuck in the past.

If it reasonably short, sure. It's usually good for a laugh. If it is an obvious cut and paste, and more than 10 or 12 lines, I skip it.

I skim them to see if they actually pertain to my question... usually they do not answer the question and have nothing to do with it. Therefore I give them a thumbs down, and move on to the responses that actually address my question.

It depends on what the passage is referring to. Also, I tend to forget since I don't read them regularly. It pays to keep up with what your contesting.
