My cockatiel and my conure live in a large cage together and get along. I noticed the cockatiel layed 3 eggs and warms them everyday. I have also noticed that she shoos away the conure, which I believe is a male, when he comes near the eggs. Should I leave the male in the cage or take him out? Also, I'm very new to breeding birds and don't know anything about it. So some tips would be helpful. Thanks. =]

Should the conure and tiel get into a fight, the conure will win. Take the eggs. They are infertile.

She will stop laying after 6 to 8 eggs are laid.

If she does not stop laying, then leave the eggs in, but move the conure. Take one egg out per day until she is relieved of them.

Give her a supplement of vitamins so she can get her nutrientes back.

Female cockatiels without a mate will lay eggs every so often, they are of cause infertile. Conures and cockatiels can't breed, but they could get into a fight when she is shooing him. Take him out while she's sitting on the eggs, leave the eggs for about 10 days then take them out one per day until gone. If you take them all at once she will lay more and could get sick. Make sure her diet is good with lots of fruit and veggies and a piece of cuttle fish for calcium.

First of all, you do need to take the conure out of the cage because the female bird is very protective of her eggs, and she probably feels insecure with the conure in there and makes her feel nervous, you also need to put a nest type of thing at the bottom of the cage, if you haven't already. I don't really have any tips just let what ever happens happen.

Hi there. The eggs are infertile because the conure and cockatiel cannot be cross bred. Some birds can, but not very many. Remove one egg a week and she might stop laying. Birds do this frequently. She will eventually lose interest in them. Have a tweet year.

Please do not take the eggs out - she will lay more to replace them and put more strain on her little body. Egg laying is hard on a bird's body, so you want to keep it to a minimum. Also, make sure you increase her calcium intake during this time. Take the Conure out and let the Tiel have her time w/ her eggs. She will realize they won't hatch and will leave them alone after a while. Do not remove them until then though...

Maurisa W is correct. You need to seperate your two birds and let the cockatiel sit on the eggs until she is bored with them. That can take up to 21 days. They are not fertile since these two breeds cannot fertalize each other.

You need to make sure she has pleanty of calcium in her diet to replace what she is loosing in egg production.

After this clutch is done, you need to change the conditions so she does not lay again. Please see the sources listed below from the National Cockatiel society.

They will not breed. Take out the eggs. Birds will lay when conditions are right. Unless they are fertilized by the same species and warmed for the correct amount of time, she can not hatch the eggs.

smoke a cigar and take out the other bird keep it seperate untill you know whats going on ,no need to upset mammie for nothing .the male could damage the eggs

dont touch the eggs whatever you do ,or she will discard them .

BUT if the father does not exist the eggs will be un fertilized, and empty.unless they are crossbreed and it is very doubtfull that this may happen
so the cigar on reflextion does not apply.
if she is in an egg laying mood get a male as quick as you can
