Influence at early ages many times determines the direction one's life with go. That's the reason both the Bible and the Koran point to teaching one's children when young. It's indoctrination of a sort. Youth is very impresionnable.

I think it can have some influence, but it can vary from person to person, since we all have our own thoughts and personalities. Lots of people of faith have had religious upbringing, but also, many of the non religious, had religious upbringings also and they moved away from it. Many have left the religion of their upbringing, to another one. There are also those who had racists parents, but chose against going that route. I'm guessing that most of our parents, or at least grandparents were (or are) against things like homosexuality, but this generation is much more accepting.
Some cultures are much more strict in their moralities and religion than we are here (in the US) but it might be because we are exposed to more kinds of people than some other places are.

I don't think it has a lot to do with it. Of my 5 siblings only one of us still belongs to the church and he only goes now and then. When we lived at home we went to church every Sunday and to Bible classes on Wednesdays. We still believe in God we just don't believe you have to go to Church to believe.

Depending on how things went you could embrace or reject it. I am just somewhere in the middle......balance what I was raised with and what I have learned on my own
