if the pizza is $20, he's on time, and the place is 2 miles away

I used to be a pizza delivery guy. A good average tip for a pizza was $3. The larger the order, the larger the tip of course. It really depends on the customer though. I delivered in a really upper class area where some people would tip as much as $10-15, but also in other areas around town where there a lot of apartments I'd get less than $2 or even no tip at all, which is quite rude in my opinion. Pay what you think is right, but tipping is very customary for pizza delivery and it should always be done unless the service is crappy.

I don't tip but that's because they're usually late and take forever, plus they always get my order wrong. And i live in a small enough town that they get paid for their gas and stuff anyway.

p.s. I generally only tip a waiter/waitress because they actually have to wait on me and do stuff for the entire length of my meal. A delivery person only has to drive your stuff to you. I work in a police department and help save people's lives and I don't get tips, and I don't even get paid very much to do my job so I don't think people should complain about how big their tip is.

Depending on his/her attitude $3-5 is fair. Some places in our town charge a delivery fee and (here anyway) that is part of the driver's "tip".

2-3 is very acceptable tip for a standard order.
