It lasts for about three hours, then I get a second wind. Usually after I work out, I change, walk home, showers, eat, and then the sleepiness just hits me. I am always hungry after I work out but are there things that I should do in order to stave off the sleepiness. I typically work out in the afternoon or early evening, depending on my class schedule and I like to have energy in the evening to do readings and work on my assignments.

I eat eggs and toast, or peanut butter sandwich for breakfast. Usually something with Pasta for lunch and typically rice, meat and veggies for supper plus popcorn, ice cream, apples, potatoes, oranges etc. when I get hungry. It's usually about two hours between when a finish working out and when I start eating. I try to work out 3-4 times a week for 40-45 minutes

Its recovery time once you've been at the gym. The best advice I can give to stave of the mega sleepiness is to eat before and after you exercise. Eat protein and carbs. Have eggs on toast, or some tuna or steak or whatever. The protein will help with muscle development and will help to reduce healing time afterwards and the carbs will give you the energy to do you workout. When you get back, same thing again. The protein for the muscles and the carbs will help replenish the energy you just lost. These aren't meals, more like snacks. Eat enough to be fine, but not full, especially beforehand. That should help keep back those fiendish sleepy demons!! :D

Here are things to consider.
1 How much sleep are you getting? 2. How much stress are you under? 3. Are you taking in enough fluids before and while your working out ? 4.How many calories are you taking in a day? 5. What's the quality of your calories? 6. How intense are your workouts?
You'll have to take a look at these questions and piece together yourself what you may me lacking or overdoing.
