i know exactly how u feel. i`m in a different set of circumstances to u but wiv the same results. if i do go out i can`t go far either. i`ve had to learn to just take it on the chin and make the best of wot i have to hand which is my computer but at some point soon even that`s going to be hard to achieve as my circumstances are going to change. i look after my dad full time and he`s currently in hospital wiv a broken hip and wen he finally comes home he wont be able to be left on his own. my dog isn`t brilliant either having suffered a stroke and has heart failure. since 2004 my life has been extremely restricted. i can understand how lonely u must be feeling. i`ve actually gone way beyond feeling lonely and i even feel i`m becoming institutionalised which frightens me. i get all the help from the social services wiv carers coming in and me getting respite but it`s not as if i can go far because of my dog so i never feel like i`ve had a proper break. there`s pretty much nothing i can do about my circumstances but i think u need to have a very serious talk wiv ur daughter and tell her ur at bursting point wiv the whole situation because things just will not improve unless u say something. she needs to be brought into line badly. i`m so sorry for the situation ur in but the good news is it can be changed

Denise,
first no you do not have to stay at home, your daughter the childs mother should be spending time with her child.
you need to lay down the law with your daughter and fast.
if you are letting your daughter go out and have fun at the expense of your own happiness you need to tell your daughter to get her act together, and stat taking her parenting responsibility seriously.
your being treated like a doormat or so it seems from your question (sorry to say that but that is how it comes accross to me).
the best thing i can suggest is you draw up a scedule that is convenient to both you and your daughter on the time you can schedule with your grand daughter. though i'm sure deep down you love your daughter and grand daughter deeply, you still need to make time to have your own life. so don't feel guilty for forcing your daughter to do her bit. it is your daughter not helping out that is being selfish. i'm betting olivia does not know she has been naughty and is making her gran upset. kids at that age can understand more than you think. try talking to olivia in terminolgy she would understand that expresses how you feel and what she did that was naughty to get her expelled from school. you may be surprised at the results.
in my opinion you should be having all the fun you want not staying home with your grand daughter.
it sounds like you are angry at your grand daughter, it is not her fault. it sounds like she is craving attention which from the sounds of your question she does not get from her mother.
so blame your daughter not your grand daughter, she is six and unless she has been told that something is bad or naughty how will she learn?
i don't know what trouble she got into at school but try speaking to the head teacher of the old school and see if they will give her another chance. kids are not inherently bad, it comes from bad parenting in my opinion.
where is olivias dad? can't he take her for a couple of hours a day or a couple hours a week to give you breathing space? what about olivias other grand parents, can't they have her for a few hours a day may be?
or what about a child minder coming in for an hour or two a week to give you breathing space?

so many possibilities, you need to find a solution that works for all of you.
good luck.

Hand her back to your daughter and tell her to take care of her daughter. You have to stand up for yourself and tell your daughter that you are no longer the babysitter to hire someone.
