I have a bottle of 2002 Wolf Blass Cabernet Sauvignon. It has not been opened, but has been upright in the dark for two years. It has not been rotated. Will it have gone bad?

It probably won't have gone bad but before you try to open it, put it on it's side to moisten the cork. If you don't, when you do open it, the cork will be too dry and will probably break up into the wine which is never good. Actually, given that it is only a 2002, it will probably be just about ready to drink since red wines are generally intended to age a few years before hitting their peak. You probably have anywhere from 6 months through to 2 years before it will start to go bad.

It may have, if the cork has dried out. The conditions you kept it in, while not ideal, are not terrible. I would, however, suggest opening it on a night when you aren't having guests, that way if it has gone to the dark side you can just toss it more easily.

Also, as someone else mentioned, even wine that has turned can be used in cooking, so unless it's really horrid, which is unlikely, you can keep it for that purpose.

Next time try to keep your bottles on their sides to keep the corks moist, you can get bottle racks of almost any size, some of which are very inexpensive. Try IKEA for a decent, cheap one. I keep my wine rack in my closet because I live in an apartment. It's a dark place and has the most stable temp. in the whole place, it works quite well.

Your wine will be fine...
It will go bad if you open it and don't drink it right away. The cork will be very dry after sitting upright. Try laying it on it's side for a few weeks to hidrate the cork. It should help a bit. If you try to open it right now you will break the cork and possible end up with cork bits in your great wine. Enjoy.

Only if there was air leakage around the cork, otherwise it's probably fine, best way to find out is to drink it, if it has turned to vinegar, don't throw it away, as it may make a good salad dressing(seriously). Cheers!

a lot depends on the temperature in which it was stored. was it constant?? and what was it? i think it's probably fine, but agree w/the person who said to open it on a night w/o guests.
