People seem to think we're unclear on what "God" means...

"God" is a three-letter word signifying an invisible being said to have powers of creation, omniscience, omnipotence, etc. Humans have worshipped thousands of such beings throughout history, some benevolent, some cruel, some indifferent to humans. Many gods are believed to take on the forms of animals, humans, or even trees, mountains, etc. Some are male, some are female, some have attributes of both, some appear as various avatars, some are trinities. The one thing they all have in common is that they are imaginary.

That's right, kids, not a single person on Earth has ever actually seen, heard, talked to or touched a god (or God, if you prefer); they are all made-up, like Santa Claus, unicorns, and leprechauns. Some people may claim they are real, but they have no proof other than their imagination, emotional experiences, the ancient writings collected in "holy books," and sometimes visions induced by drugs and/or fasting. Now, many of these people will claim that the reason YOU don't believe in their God/gods, is because you don't understand his/her/their nature--the implication being that they DO understand this. At the same time, they will say that nobody can understand the nature of God. If so, then they can't understand it, either.

In conclusion, they don't know what they're talking about.

The definition I go by is "A creator of the universe" and since I believe the universe is not created that makes me an atheist. I realize of course that this definition would not include many of the Norse or Greek Gods, but it is hard to make a useful short definition which includes only the storybook characters which are called gods and excludes all other storybook characters.

diverse beliefs require diverse degrees of religion. even as atheists bypass on an plane, they have a minimum of had info that air go back and forth is comparatively secure, no matter if from own adventure or analyzing information on newspapers. Believing in God (and maximum different religions) is in basic terms about one hundred% in accordance with faith, with little or no scholarly info that proves the religion is real. i'm no longer declaring it truly is a nasty concern, in basic terms that faith calls for far more effective faith, and so some all and diverse is more effective uncomfortable with that.

I'm pretty clear on the generally understood concept of God, but there are lots of concepts. They seem to change over time.

The concept of god is not the issue, there are so many concepts. The reality of a god is what is in question, regardless of how it is conceptualized.

I know exactly what a god is. Apparently better than any Christian in existance. I have science on my side, and the use of a dictionary. How about you?
