Yes. It is true that we should not become drunk but used in moderation, wine is a biblically acceptable beverage.

Jesus told them, "Fill the jars with water." So they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, "Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter." So they took it. And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, ... (John 2:7-9)

Wine is used throughout both the Old and New Testaments. The first recorded miracle of Jesus was to turn water in wine at the wedding in Cana.

Go, eat your bread with joy and drink your wine with a merry heart, because it is now that God favors your works. (Ecclesiastes 9:7)

What would Jesus do? Jesus had a cup of wine with dinner.

If some people wish to totally forego alcohol to eliminate the temptation to over indulge, that's fine. But I don't think they should force that unbiblical teaching onto others.

With love in Christ.

That's one of those questions that people can hold different view points on. The Bible says that someone who is drunk all of the time will not enter the Kingdom of God but it doesn't prohibit drinking alcohol. Some people would use this passage to say that being "drunk as a skunk" is a sin.

Ephesians 5:18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,

Other people might say that if a person was at a celebration of some sort and they imbibed too much alcohol that it isn't really a sin. Of course, a person who gets that drunk will probably be committing sin of one kind or another unless they pass out since alcohol first effects a person's judgment and a lot of time people who get drunk shoot their mouths off in a sinful way.

The Bible says to give strong drink to those who are on death's door and in great pain. I guess if you're on death's door and in great pain you can drunk as a skunk.

Proverbs 20:1
Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, And whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise.

Proverbs 23:28-35
[29] Who has woe? Who has sorrow?
Who has contentions? Who has complaining?
Who has wounds without cause?
Who has redness of eyes?
[30] Those who linger long over wine,
Those who go to taste mixed wine.
[31] Do not look on the wine when it is red,
When it sparkles in the cup,
When it goes down smoothly;
[32] At the last it bites like a serpent
And stings like a viper.
[33] Your eyes will see strange things
And your mind will utter perverse things.
[34] And you will be like one who lies down in the middle of the sea,
Or like one who lies down on the top of a mast.
[35] "They struck me, but I did not become ill;
They beat me, but I did not know it.
When shall I awake?
I will seek another drink."

If your religion condones it and if it doesnt hurt anyone, then go figure. As a Muslim and a person however, I would highly discourage drinking but surely I'm just saying as no Muslims can impose our religious laws on non-Muslims. God forbids it.
