Tim M: Jesus came up with it, but then look how his life turned out, his freinds betrayed him and the public voted him dead, so i guess your right. Maybe heaven is just a myth like all the rest.

Zuhailles Th: thats the problem i have with the 'middle path', it's an excuse to do nothing. Basically the idea that God and 'his' kingdom/heaven is within is mentioned by Jesus.
"The Kingdom of God is not low here or low there, but behold, the kingdom of God is within"

Many religions, particularly Zen Buddhism, abhor the intellectualisation of their core beliefs which is basically what the paraphernalia is, and urge their followers to look within only - so don't confuse mal-practitioners and the activities of the irreligious with the beliefs they parasatise...

Who came up with the mubo jumbo about Heaven being within us?
It's not.
Romans 3:23
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Isaiah 53:6
All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.
Romans 3:10
as it is written,
"THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE;"
Jeremiah 17:9
"The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?"

Because of our inherited nature, we have been separated from God. Peace of mind is achieved when we resolve all disputes and disunity in our lives. The methods to achieve these tasks is what is discussed in the books stores. Everybody has an opinion and if they can find somebody to publish their book they make money on it. Makes you wonder what's more important to them, the money or the issues involved.

Because people are convinced at a young age that they need the church to help them make decisions. Just look at the Middle-East, it's all about controling others, and the power and money that follow.

Because a book on religion is so easy to write.
There's no research to do because you just make it up as you go. It's the way religious writing has been done for several thousand years.

because for some people that's too simple, and things that are too simple aren't believeable. Some peopel need something more tangible - something they can hold onto. Thus the books and icons, and other paraphenalia.

A lot of great cooks own cookbooks. A lot of great electricians own electrical guides. A lot of religious people own religious books. Its the same process, different subject.

Simply because He's not within us. I wonder why some of us would want to wrangle in theological rhetoric so much.
The founder of Maliki school of jurisprudence, Imam Malik (God be pleased with him) exercised extreme caution about such wrangling in matters of creed and used to say: "Whenever a man enters into arguing about issues of creed it diminishes his faith."
The great Sufi master, Ibnu Arabi (God be pleased with him) once said: "Whoever builds his faith exclusively on demonstrative proofs and deductive arguments builds a faith on which it is impossible to rely. For he is affected by the negativities of constant objections. Certainty does not derive from the evidences of the mind but pours out from the depths of the heart."
So, why trouble our mind unnecessarily?

This is totally a wrong concept that God is within us. God is so close to us by His virtues, qualities, capabilities and knowledge, His reach is everywhere, not Him by Himself.
