Something that might work temporarily is to get some dental wax. You can usually find this at a pharmacy/drug store. People with dental appliances (like braces) usually keep some dental wax handy in case their hardware brakes and starts poking them.
You will want to take the dental wax out when eating as it's not durable/hard enough for chewing, but it should keep your tongue safe until you can get your tooth fixed.
Be sure you brush/mouthwash regularly as bacteria may set in under the filling. Get it fixed as soon as you can.
DO NOT use an emery board (metal or not) in your mouth (as someone below has suggested). This could only make a bad matter worse and end up in a trip to the emergency room or having no choice but to go to a dentist.

Maybe the dentist chipped your tooth when extracting your wisdom tooth. Plus when you get your wt cut out they can hurt for awhile. All 4 of mine were cut out at the same time and I still felt pain in them a year later.

Go to the pharmacist in your grocery store or drug store and ask them for dental wax for braces and put that over the chipped tooth until you can get it fixed...it is soft and clear and will adhere to the shape of the tooth and allow your tongue to glide over it without rubbing on the chipped tooth...
I wore braces on my teeth and this is what I used when the braces would rub against my tongue and side of my mouth...
Instant relief and no more raw..hurting tongue! Good Luck!

go to the drugstore and they have tempory filling meterial
for teeth just make a little ball of it and press it on where you tooth is chipped and it will keep it from getting worse and also get rid of the sharp edges. it lasts quite a while so you won't have to worry about rushing to the dentist.

They make a dental wax that is made for people with braces. You can get it at any drug store in the dental section. Buy some of that and put it over the rough spot until you can get to the dentist.
