Yes and NO. They both have some strange doctrinal issues. However, they could be called Christian based on a belief in Jesus Christ. When we get to Heaven there will be some of them there....probably.....

Mormons believe Jesus and satan are brothers..they also use the Book of Mormon more when teaching people as they believe that it is the gospel also. They hold to things which are not found in the Bible...whether they are christian is up to God..He knows their heart.
Seventh Day Adventists are christian. They use the Bible above all..they believe that we are to follow the ten commandments..the moral law and royal law that God wrote with His finger in stone . They believe that Jesus Christ died for their sins, rose again and now sits at the right hand of the Father. They believe in so many things found in the Bible..that much of christianity today has thrown out of their teachings..and who rely on just a few twxts for the teachings where as these seventh day adventist people seem to consider all texts. Most of todays christians believe that the ten commandments is no longer for us, but the adventist people believe that this is not so...just as i believe that in Revelation it teaches that those who follow the ten commandments have the right to eat from the tree of life and enter the gates of heaven..since that is still to come it shows the ten commandments are still to be followed.
Mormons do not believe in so many things from the Bible..and they deny the things that their own church history tells them is true..that we are all wrong and on campaigns of hate against them.

Seventh Day Adventists: Yes. Quirky, but same Jesus, same Gospel, just a strange way of looking at the Law.
Mormons: No. Different Gospel. Different Jesus. Denial of Trinity, Incarnation and Atonement on the Cross.

most don't consider Mormons and 7day Adventists to be Christians (or Jehovah's witnesses either for that matter)
the reason being that although they do believe in A Jesus WHAT they actually believe about him is markedly different
they do believe in a historical Jesus whereas a christian would believe in him being the son of God and also being part of the Godhead which all the above groups deny
so an interesting debate but i would have to side with your friend in this matter

SDA's are a faction of Christianity. Mormons on the other hand are not. They are whats known as a pseudo-Christian cult. They do have a Jesus but he is the brother of Satan, and they both have the same human father and mother. Mormonism is really off the planet. The sad part is that the people are very moral, good, decent folk. I know several, they are fine people. their beliefs are really strange.

I'm Mormon and I consider myself Christian. All good Mormons do. The question is how do you (emphasis) define a follower of Christ? If your definition of being Christian is contingent on holding specific theological views of Him, then I suppose in your eyes I wouldn't be Christian. But if you definition of being Christian is soley contingent on holding the belief that the Son of God came to Earth and atoned for the sins of humanity, then I would be a Christian in your eyes. Even if you accept the former as correct, perhaps you might see me as one who is trying to have the spirit of Christ in his life and hopefully that would mean something.
P.S. We do use the Bible and believe it to be the Word of God.

Mormon's do believe in the bible and study both the book of Mormon and the Bible.
The other name for Mormons are "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints." Christians are followers of Christ. As you might guess from their other name, they are also followers of Christ.

John 17:3 tells it all.
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
