the reason you are feeling discomfort when chewing is becasue the cavity prep for the filling may have been deep which means close to the pulp where the nerves of your tooth are. the irritation from the drill may have made this sensitive the sensitivity should settle shortly

it is very common to have sensitivity after a filling is placed. if the cavity was large and the dentist needed to remove a lot of tooth structure then the tooth may be a little irritated. Sometimes if the filling material is not adjusted correctly you can have some pain when biting. this can feel like a deep bruise in the jaw. if the sensitvity does not resolve in a few days, then you should let your dentist know. she/he may need to adjust the biting portion of the tooth so that it fits correctly. you should baby the area and then test it out in a few days to see how it feels. if it is still painful, give your DDS a call and let him/her make sure there aren't any problems. Good Luck

Yes I've had many fillings before.
It usually takes 3-5 days for you to get somewhat used to it. Don't worry if it feels like your jaw isn't setting right or it's a little painful to chew. The feeling should go away after at most 2 weeks. If it doesn't, then you have a problem.

Your tooth may be a little sore depending on how large the filling is becuase of the amount of tooth that was removed due to decay. But you should call you're dr cause it may be that your bite is off and even ifi it's just like 1/2 mm too high on that tooth it can throw everything off and make the tooth you jaw and everything around it sore. So just call the dr they do not mind when a patient calls..And if you do go in it'll be a quick appt....Good Luck

Yes it has happened to me. I had one filled in October 2006 and it took it until now to get over being sensitive. I can chew and bite on it now, 3 months later.

Yes I am dealing with it right now! Go back immediately! The filling could be too high and if you grind it and chomp hard on it just to feel it, it is going to hurt even after you get it fixed. Mine still hurts because I waited multiple months to get it dealt with and waited until I was in so much pain that I couldn't eat. Ow. Don't chomp hard on it or grind in the mean time, even though it's hard not to. But seriously go get it looked at.

I've heard of this and I was told that it could be a bruised nerve in the tooth around where the filling is...better have it checked back out if the pain persist after a week or so....
