Folks, this is a serious situation and an equally serious question.
DO NOT do anything that will embarrass you as well as your friend. That includes drawing on your friend, shaving your friend, taking compromising pictures of your friend, etc. I'm sure you get the idea.
Do everything that you can to make sure that your friend is safe. If they drove the location, take their car keys. If you can, get your friend into your car or a cab, and get him/her home. Stay with your friend, and among other things, make certain that your friend, while unconscious or asleep, stays in what's called the recovery position. That means on their side, with their limbs slightly bent in order to keep them in that position. That way, if they vomit, they are highly unlikely to breath in their vomitus (that's what it's called), which would cause any number of respiratory problems, including death.
If your friend it unconscious as opposed to "passed out", ie, if you friend cannot be woken, call for an ambulance. Such a situation is a symptom of alcohol poisoning, and that's something that can kill, outright.
After this is all over, tell your friend that you are very concerned about their drinking habits. Drinking to excess on a routine basis usually indicates alcohol abuse if not outright alcoholism. It requires specific help, helt that is beyond the abilities of most persons.

It depends on how old they are and how much they've drunk. say someone who just turned twenty drinks enough to not only pass out, but to be completely sick. (This almost happened to my cousin's friend.) When your body has not been exposed to much alcohol, and you drink a bunch at one time, you can easily get alcohol poisoning. If this is the case, you should contact a poison control center IMMEDIATELY!!! People can DIE from alcohol poisoning!
But suppose your fried is older, and has had alcohol before without having too much more than a fuzzy tongue and a headache this kind of person should probably just sleep the worst off.
Of course, you really shouldn't hang out with people who will get drunk.... :>(

It's a horrible thing for your friend to put on you, but try to get them somewhere comfortable to lie down, assess the situation. If they are being sick, then make sure they do not lie on their back, once they are done hurling, then get them some water and maybe some bread if you think they can handle it (it soaks up the alcohol). If you managed to make it home with them then stay awake for a bit while the drunk person sleeps to make sure they don't vom in their sleep (had to stop two different friends from choking to death on their own vomit, wasn't pretty). When it looks safe, hit the hay, you've had a long night!

It depends where you are:
At a bar - stay with him, put a hat on him, make sure his head is tilted forward, that your coats or purses aren't near him and that you have cleared him a path in case he wakes up and decides to b-line to the washroom. Distract the bouncers away strategically if necessary.
At a house party - If he is your friend > take him to a bedroom, lay him on the floor sideways and put a garbage can or plastic bags right in front of him and take turns checking up on him every 10 minutes or so.
If he is your friend but has it coming to him > take a bunch of his clothes off, draw all over him with lipstick and get pictures of the whole thing. Then follow instructions above "If he is your friend >..."

When I was raising my daughter, she had a friend who was
15 and wanted to see how much she could drink. She
passed out in the park and all her friends went home because
they thought she was showing off. The police found her later
and she was dead. Morale of this story? You guess.

Be a good (sober) friend and make sure that they're okay throughout the night.
They'll do the same for you one day, I'm sure.
