Because when you got in you were a shitbag , it didnt seem like it to you but you were. Once you've been in for a few years and learn majority of what you are supposed to , you will see all the new guys as freaking idiots, its like a cycle. But then you will teach them what they are supposed to know and then they wont be shitbags anymore.

My Dad said one time in the early 1950s (Korean War) his unit really screwed up. They brought them all into a hall on a Saturday morning and a Sergeant Major from WWII walked onto the stage. He was in full dress uniform. He said, "I was in the Old Army. The New Army. And Now This" and walked off the stage. My dad was never so ashamed. I think we always think it was better in the past when it comes to the military, we have to live up to the past. But I think our people are pushing as hard as ever at the moment (been to Bethesda or Walter Reed lately).

If you're an NCO, you can look no other place than yourself for these "shitbags". Your job is to train them, failure to do so only reflects upon yourself and your lack of leadership.

No, it's been quite a while since I retired from the Army but I think we are getting good recruits and we still have the best training that a soldier can get.
