I go out most nights and spend about 2,000-3,000 baht. I drink all I want (and sometimes more) and also buy drinks for others. In many clubs (such as those in the RCA or Ramkamhaeng district) it's cheaper to buy a bottle of whiskey with soda and Coke for mixers (common here) than to buy individual drinks--even beer. The whiskey can be as inexpensive as 400 baht for a bottle of Thai whiskey (100 Pipers, Benmore, etc.), which I find to be quite acceptable. The waiters will mix the drinks for you. There are expensive clubs as well, but you can cut costs even there by not ordering as much alcohol. A lot of people here order one or two drinks and nurse them all evening. I would determine my budget and go to places that match it. I can have as much fun in the least expensive places as I can in the expensive ones.

Cheap night:

Grab noodles at local noodle stand and a bottle of water. 30 baht. Take the skytrain down to Patpong. 20 baht. Buy a beer in 7-11 and walk around for an hour. 60 baht. Duck into some bars for two drinks- 220 baht. Snack 20 baht. People watch at outside bar- 110 baht. Buy a beer at 7-11 and walk into Funky Dojo pretending you bought it there. 60 baht. Cab home 50 baht.
Total bill: 570 baht.

Expensive night:

Taxi to Oriental. 100 baht. Full-course dinner for you and friend at Le Normandie with wine: 30,000 baht. Taxi to Forte. 120 baht. Buy premier membership: 100,000 baht. Taxi to Banyan tree. 70 baht. Champagne for four plus snacks at Moon Bar: 16,000 baht. Taxi home. 60 baht.
Total bill: 146,350 baht.

Typical night out for me (avoiding the expensive spots) wound be in the range of 2000-3000 baht or so.
