I pull my eyebrows out and have been doing so for 5 years. I have not seen a health care provider for this because they'll probably just put me on medicine which is something I do not want. I am not depressed. It just seems I do this subconsciously when I am bored or nervous. Does anyone have ideas how i can help myself stop this? It started when I was a freshman in college, and I've graduated over a year ago and still do this. I realize my eyebrows will probably never grow back the way they once were. Any good makeup tips I suppose?

Trichotillomania is a manifestation of OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) and is notoriously difficult to treat. Some people get relief from anti-anxiety medications (which have their own side-effects) and psychotherapy. I pulled my hair out when I was in college. I took Paxil and saw a shrink and had great results. I haven't pulled my hair out in ages and don't think I ever will again. Good luck!

I have a 9 yo student whose mother found that biofeedback is the only thing that seems to help.

Until 6 mo of biofeedback training, I had never seen this child with eyebrows or eyelashes for 3 years.

You don't have to be depressed for antidepressants to work. I personally think they should be called something else.
Does your mind race? Are you thinking of a million things at once or are you calm?
If you are anxious, antidepressants will calm you down and stop your mind from racing. They will probably stop that eyebrown pulling also.

Shave it off. You can't pull what you don't have. You won't damage the roots, and you may get over your mania later. You can then let your eyebrows regrow.

Don't they use antidepressants for the condition you mentioned.. Possibly anxiety drugs might stop you from doing that.. Good luck!
