It sounds like the Norinco model imported by Interarms.
22-ATD
- .22 LR cal. only, patterned after the Browning Semi-Auto, 19.4 in. barrel, 11 shot mag. in stock, blue finish, checkered hardwood stock, take-down design, adj. rear sight, 4.6 lbs. Mfg. by Norinco 1987-96.

I tell you, some people crack me up. I get a thumbs down for posting pricing info from the newest version of the book that most dealers and individuals use????? This place is getting more and more petty and bogus each day. It's about time to just stay at the regular gun forums and let the majority here spread incorrect or oudated information.
You'd think 30+ years of gun experience would count for something.

The Browning 'take-down' .22 has the slot you speak off. That is what it sounds like to me. The originals were made in Belgium and there are now good Chinese and Japanese copies.

The "W" makes me wonder if Winchester ever made a copy of this rifle. Seems to me there also was a Remington .22 that loaded from the butt, but I'm not sure. If the back of the barrel unscrews (takes down), then my best guess is that it is a Browning or Browning clone.

What you have is a copy of a Browning 22 auto takedown.
If it were a Browning you would find Browning stamped on the barrel.
