Likely not, but the problem is more rampant with Protestants than it seems to be with Catholics.

Its not crazy to expect you to know that Catholics don't worship statues or Mary. I'm not even Christian and I know it. So should you.

So, why are protestants so uninformed about other denominations of their own religion?

Its a valid question, can you actually answer it?

Its not subjective prejudice of just me. Read the questions on here sometime and see how many protestants ask about Catholics worshipping Mary and the one less than a half an hour ago about worshipping statues.

This country had serious Catholic-Protestant antagonism going in the first half of the last century.
There was a lot of separatism. I don't know exactly how it went away. A lot of the mistaken ideas come from that hostile time. Our great grandparents didn't mix and still pass on their wrong ideas.

Why, exactly, should we be experts on the other dozens of denominations of our own religion? That's a crazy expectation.

You know the stuff you WANT to know. [You aren't a Christian, but you have bothered to look into what Catholics believe and don't believe.] Other stuff you choose to ignore. Just like everyone else. No human being is an expert or is knowlegeable about everything. I don't HAVE to know what Catholics do or don't do; only if I am going to pass public judgement on them, or make a public statement about Catholic religious practice, or theological belief, should I have to know what I'm talking about. Otherwise, I would have to know about every one of dozens of denominations.

I don't think that is a valid question at all. Do you have any idea how many "Christian denominations" there are? And you think that people have the time (and inclination) to learn what every one of them believes?? Really?

I see this quite a bit. Pastors will usually communicate locally with other pastors of their own or very similar denominations, but won't stray very far. As a result, very few guest pastors, and people are locked into their own little worlds. I would love so much to see multi-denominational get-togethers so people could interface a little bit and meet other Christians.

Most people are uninformed about other denominations. What are you driving at?

This would have been a valid question if it was based on facts rather than gross exaggeration and the subjective prejudiced opinion of one person.

I don't think this problem is relegated only to protestants.
