I got my ring 3 years ago and we have no wedding date set. I dont take my ring off, and he has his that he does not take off. We dont plan on getting married for awhile, we think theres no reason to rush it. We act like were married and all, so we think that we dont need a little piece of paper telling us that we are.

I had a friend who has her's almost 7 years before they finally got married. They got engaged in high school (she was only 16), didn't get married until she was 23. I personally wouldn't want to be engaged that long, that was actually my thing with my now fiance...we spoke about it before getting engaged & we agreed we'd get married within a year of the engagment. It's just a personal choice, but I see no reason she shouldn't wear her ring if she is engaged.

you wear your engagement ring until you get married, and then you usually continue to wear it as long as you are married.
now, here's my question...did they get engaged when they are teenagers? because that is the only reason i can think of for them to have been engaged so long, besides natural disasters or a series of family tragedies.
to me, getting engaged means you are ready to get married and are planning a wedding...which is why my boyfriend and i are not engaged yet, even though we've been dating for nearly 8 years (were only 23 and 24)...but let me tell you, once were engaged, it'll be less than a year til we're married!

You don't really need to wear one actually... what I have in mind is that wedding ring lets ppl know that you're married or engaged...not wearing a ring is not a big deal as you're likely going to spend time(years, lifetime) with him forever.. So why be so fussy about..? It is just a ring... your relationship is not going to fade.

I would get mad at him for not setting a date. how dumb is someone to wear a engagement ring for so long and not set a date? if i was in her shoes i would end the whole engagement and just wear a ring he gave me. or totally end the relationship sense there is no future there.

No, there should be no limit. That is a personal matter.
However, I don't see anything good about long engagements, unless circumstances beyond their control are preventing the marriage.

If she's happy waiting over 5 years and they still consider themselves engaged....she can wear it forever.
She shouldn't wear or do anything just because he'll get mad.
Maybe it's a good thing they're not married.

There's no "time limit" if she's engaged, then she wears her ring.
