Legally you can't, unless they pull out their wallets and let you look. I can, for Manitoba licence and insurance, but legally I need permission to access the information, and I can't disclose it to anybody other than the person involved. In other words, if you come into my office, or phone and properly identify yourself, I can access your basic records for you, nobody else. If you come in and ask about somebody else's licence, or insurance, or even their birthday, tough noogies, you aren't entitled to the information. (And neither am I.) I could lose my licence to work, end up in court, and be fined thousands of dollars. Cops can't go fishing, either, by the way. If a cop comes into my office and asks, he gets nothing. If he is legally entitled to the information, I am not the proper channel.

Ask them to show it to you. That information isn't divulged by the state for privacy and security reasons.
