that depends on you.. if he would give extra effort to teach you other basic stuff you need to know like if a problem comes up etc.. why not? but i dont think you are obligated..

I generally don't tip the cable guy, their salaries aren't dependent on tips like waiters or similar service staff people. But if they're providing good service, I like to offer a bottled drink, or maybe some cookies. Just a small "thank you".

Just offer him a soda or something but there is really no need to tip him , they are paid well hourly .

No. Most companies don't even allow them to accept tips. Be sure, however, to offer him a beverage or something.
