geneologies. To prove historical lineage & accurate family lines.
Funny thing about those geneologies? The names (David - beloved; Ariel - lion of G-d; Moses-drawn out, etc)...if you look up the names & what they mean, there is often a hidden message inside, such as the lineage surrounding Noah, Methuselah & around that time.
These lineages can be fasciniating glimpses ito the lives/beliefs of those people.

Those lists of names are BEAUTIFUL! Those lists of names are the key to understanding the Bible! Those lists of names are wonderful and tie together the most important truths in the world! I love reading the genealogies of the Old Testament even though I'm not Jewish and never have been! They are SO helpful in understanding the world.

So we can track The generations and follow the Bibles time line. With out it we wouldn't have any idea of where we are in time or how old the earth is...

One to show hertiage or family trees.
The other names in the Bible have another meaning.
Get a concordance you will find another level to the Bible.

The Jews had their reasons, it all makes sense to primitive peoples thousands of years ago.

Doesn't apply at all to today...along with most of the bible.
