My seven year old son lives with my sister and her husband. My son went out on the road with his Uncle this evening on the big truck. My sister said that her husband checked the wheather report before they left and he thinks that they are in no significant danger due to the wheather this weekend. I get my news from the Internet and what I saw says other wise. Oklahoma is preparing for the worst. Everyone is worried about running out of supplies such as sand for the roads, etc. Yet my family thinks that I am worried for no good reason. We live West of Ft Worth. What do you think?

Everyone cares about the people they love, especially parents!

Don't worry yourself to death, be confident in your friends !

What I think is that he is your son and if you are not okay with him going because of the weather or any other reason you should say something. You have the rights here. The only reason you wouldn't have the rights is if you haven't been a big part of his life you know the reason he is living with them, if you have given up your parental rights in other ways then you really have no right stepping in here either, but if you have been a big part of his life or you make the parental decisions you should step in here just tell them you are not cool with it and that maybe he can go with when the weather is better. I grew up going out on the road with my father so I do understand where you could be paranoid follow your mothers instincts. I wish that I could give you a accurate weather forecast and say there is no reason to worry but I can't say use your best judgment, your son will probably kick and scream but in the end it's you and only you who has the only say in a situation like this.

Not paranoid but concerned and concern for someone you love often leads to worrying unnecessarily.

If the worst comes to the worst and your son and his uncle do get stuck in the snow then being in a truck is about the best place to be. They're designed for the driver to stay in them so your son and uncle will be warm, safe and dry.

I've been stuck in the snow before on a few occasions and other than boredom it's no big deal.

Your family know you better then anyone and as they're saying you're worrying for no good reason I'd be inclined to go along with them.

Best case scenario - nothing happens. Worst case scenario - they're late getting back.

why does your son live with your sister?

guess storms don't bother me. I grew up with snow and ice storms and the fear the media likes to throw at us. I've been 5 days without power in an ice storm and I survived.

I'm sure his uncle will be sure he is safe. If the weather gets to bad, truckers always get off the roads.

I understand your motherly concern, I would be concerned too. However, since your son lives with them, I'm sure they treat him as their own. Trust their judgment or have your son live with you full time.

I will keep my fingers crossed for good weather.

You may have a right to be concerned but
I don't think you should take it any further than
simple concern at this time....
