i know you have to put it down...but...isn't a guy just as entitled to complain that you "always leave the seat down" and have to lift it up when using the bathroom?

Because it's one more thing they get to ***** about. A woman must have a certain number of things to complain about or she spontaneously combusts.

Okay, here is the answer for good toilet etiquette. First, the lid should be left down by both males and females. If the male stands up to use the toilet, he should wipe the rim of the porcelain off well with toilet paper or tissue, then place both the seat and the lid down. Women should place the lid down after using. So, both sexes approach the toilet with the lid down and when finished leave it clean with the lid down. Men, trust me on this one. You'll have a much happier marriage if you learn this early.

Well, all that you have to do when we leave the seat down is lift it.
If you forget to put the seat down and then we forget to put the seat down before we use the restroom (like when you get up in the middle of the night and are all groggy and not thinking clearly) we fall in the toilet! That is gross... in all fairness though, it is silly for girls to get mad about that. I get more angry when the hubby pees on the seat so personally, I would rather have to check to make sure that the seat is down.

A toilet isn't a visually appealing appliance anyway, but the seat left up makes it less so...it's also a potential injury situation if someone goes to sit and doesn't realize the seat is up (can really wrench your back).
Best to keep the seat AND lid down at all times. Then there's no issue. Guy lifts both (at one time) to do his business and then puts them down. Woman lifts lid to do her business. then puts it back down. That way when it's flushed fewer microscopic particles are thrown around the bathroom to land on your bath towels, toothbrush, etc.
Think about it.

For me these are the reasons: 1. The toilet seat is closer to the toilet closed lid 2. When you sh.t you use the toilet seat, so woman use the toilet seat for both functions, the equation is clear two against one.

Well, I'm a guy and I can tell you why. Women want to shave as many seconds off of there "delivery" as they can and when they have to let the seat down it could throw off their rhythm to complete the task at hand. All we have to do is hold tight and let the seat up because, we're already standing up and there is no rhythm for us, plus it is the gentleman thing to do. Can you imagine going to the bathroom in the dark with the seat up and falling through to the cold water. The seat looks better down anyway.

Thank you for asking this question!!! This has been so hilarious and enlightening. I had no idea that women were mad because they fall in the toilet water or sit on the rim. I haven't made that mistake since I was a child--middle of the night or not! I suppose women really are just like children after all.
Until now, all I ever heard was crazy, unexplained bitching about it. At least now I understand it's not just immense laziness on their part; it's clumsiness, which I don't blame anyone for.

Do you *hit with the seat up? I didn't think so.
Have you ever gone to sit on the toilet in the middle of the night, and had the seat left up.... so that you sit directly into the toilet water?
That's why women get so mad... not to mention it just looks better with the seat and lid down.

There's nothing like getting up in the midddle of the night to go to the bathroom, half asleep and fall right through and end up sitting in toilet water!!

I don't my hubby pees like a girl and my son's put the lid down because they were trained to put the lid down but not for me but because at the time we had 2 kittens and we didnt' want either of them drowing in the toilet.
