This is a difficult question...
The 10 Commandments teaches us not to murder, but killing during war is not murder. Murder is when you take a life, after you planned out how to take the life...which is not the same as the military leaders planning objectives that have to be followed in order to be met. In war, the humans involved are not thought of as such. I am opposed to any killing, especially if I have to do it. But when it comes down to saving innocent people at the expense of some terrorist or lunatic, my rounds will be aimed to stop the offender.
My country is not on God's side, no more than their country is on Allah's side. We're all God's children no matter what we call Him. Someone once said something that I always say wrong..."what we have not the power to give, we have not the right to take..." I can not reanimate dead people. I don't want to make dead people. I did not give life, and I don't have the right to take it, unless it is to protect the innocent. You could go all day trying to figure out who is innocent...in the end, God will sort it out for me.

To me,the only thing I have ever read on killing being a sin in the king James bible is in shedding innocent blood and that is one of the seven things God hates.Killing an enemy of the United States is hard to say if it is sin at times.
My son was in the marines for 5 years and I prayed about him being in there all the time and the most I could get was that he had given himself to be in there and he should do his duty.

I never saw that question on the Army entrance exam...
It may have been expressed in one of the questionnaires to determine your fitness for combat situations.. but since I was in electronics and not intended to be in combat I may not have been given that questionnaire.

yes its a sin - Murder is wrong. Killing another human is wrong.
It even says so in the 10 commandement.
Thou shalt NOT kill.
Thou shalt NOT kill.
It does not say "thou shalt kill only your enemies"
To the vet who said this - The 10 Commandments teaches us not to murder, but killing during war is not murder - This is BS. Killing is killing no matter when, where and how its done.

Easy. An enemy of the US is not by definition an enemy of God, unless you think the US national interest is divine...
There is a conflict, Jesus said love your enemies. Yes, I would kill anyone that broke into my house or if I saw someone about to kill innocent people. I would, but it's my choice not the state that says who it's ok to kill.... that is where Christianity gets radical and believe me, the government doesn't want you to think like this ;)

For Christ's true followers any killing is a sin. According to Christ it is a sin not to love your enemy!
Any questions?

It is a sin to kill anyone who is not a dictator like hitler and saddaam hussein. Only if a person is truly evil and took away many lives, it is OK.

Yes. That's why Byzantine Emperors often deferred baptism until late in life. Unfortunately, war is sometimes a necessary evil, but an evil nonetheless.
