DNA is already determined at the moment of conception- the heart is beating at 3 weeks. You do not even find out your pregnant before a month to 6 weeks. What cell has a heart beating? These are scientifically proven, not just thoughts that Christians thought up. I admit I am a Christian, but even if I was not I would be against abortion. Why? Because a heart that is beating means life.

You say that life begins when the "organism" is able to live on its own- why is it a federal crime to destroy a condors egg- before it hatches and can not live on its own- but not a human, created in the image of God? That baby is kicking in the womans stomach and moving around, and the mom can feel that and then you can say life does not begin until you are outside the womb? Where is the intelligence in that?

to Jaysunpro- you really have no idea what I have gone through or how many children I have or what income I have.
To clarify - I could have been a victim of abortion myself, my birth mom choose life for me, and my husband and I have 2 adopted children that could have been aborted as well, because their birth moms had people in their lives that were trying to force them to abort. I have a disabled husband, our income is not good. I am not trying to justify myself or my reason for asking this question. I know I am passionate about this issue, because my God is passionate about it, and also as I said before 3 people in my house could have been aborted.

Just an opinion.

A point to start is where the fertilized egg implants on the uterine wall, and the mother starts to nurish and nurture the baby.
.
After this point, if there is nothing naturally and biologically wrong that prevents the baby from developing (causing it to spontaneously and naturally abort), it takes pre-meditation to kill it.

Many fertilized eggs just don't implant. Sometimes (not always), multiple eggs are fertilized, and if one egg has already implanted, the others will not implant.

I've given alot of thought to this controversy. I am a Christian, and I certainly would not ever, ever have an abortion.BUT --
I did have one when I was fourteen years old. I was scared to death, esspecially since that was back in the 60's, when your parents would disown you just before they killed you if you came home pregnant. So, I've seen both sides of this issue. Its easy now for me to say I would never do it, because I'm beyond the possibility of becoming pregnant, and besides, in this day and age nobody is gonna refuse you a job because you are an unwed mother. What I really feel about this whole thing is that its a damn shame - and I don't care what religion you are - even a satanist should find it a shame - hell, satan wants to be worshipped instead of Christ - thats the whole war between them, and so even satan would admit that if there aren't any kids being born, there aren't any worshippers, either. My point is, that unless a person is a sicko pervert who is unstable in their mind, nobody actually likes the idea of abortion. People have abortions in this day and age, it seems, because it is an inconvenient time for them to have a child - whatever the reason.
I say that with confidence, because the only other reasons would be that its medically dangerous for the mother, at which time an abortion would be performed legally anyway - in a hospital setting.
The other is a rape victim who doesn't want to have her attackers child - that also would be legally aborted, so--
doesn't it suck that someone would abort a little baby just because they would rather get that better position at work, or they really like to party and don't wanna have to stay home on Friday night? Am I missing something, or does this just come down to total and absolute selfishness??
I met a girl one time who told me she got an operation to not ever be able to get pregnant ever in her life - no going back. I asked her why, and she said: "because I like to party; I like to spend money on clothes and shoes; I like to have my fingernails done at the salon and keep them real long and bright red; I like to date different men. I know I wouldn't be able to do these things if I become a mother. I'm selfish, so I got myself fixed."

That was the single, most UNselfish thing I have ever heard in my lifetime. She was the first atheist I have ever met, and yet she seemed closer to God at that moment than many Christians I 'd known in my life.

Anyway, this and five bucks will get you a coffee just about anywhere.

I really like your point: DNA is already determined at the moment of conception.

It makes more sense than anything I've ever heard. The beating heart absolutely makes sense too. Abortionists are stopping a human heart from beating. I'm not talking about rape or saving a woman's life--those should always be exceptions. But otherwise, it is murder.

This "surviving outside the body" stuff is a lot of baloney. First of all, they kill it before they can find out if it can survive. Second, that logic would extend to adults who have been in an accident and need a breathing tube for awhile. Do they lose all rights as a human being?

1. DNA is determined way before conception. It's present in the ova and in the sperm before they ever meet.

2. What science tells us that one kind of life is any more 'important' or 'holy' than another?

3. If you decide for some reason that human life is somehow more important than other lives, who defines the difference from life in general and 'human' life? If a piece of protoplasm with a heartbeat will eventually become a human being, does that mean neccessarily that it's already a human being? If you cannot even TELL THE DIFFERENCE between a human chunk of beating protoplasm and a dolphin chunk of beating protoplasm without a DNA scan, then what IS the difference? Is the difference just because you KNOW it's human because it's IN a human? What if its in a petri dish?

My point is that our determinations of what 'life' means and what 'human' means are fairly arbitrary and depend wholly on what we as humans are capable of and how we decide to view things.

Life starts at conception, are you happy?
As long as something is in my body and I do not want it, it is a parasite, and I can remove a parasite if I wish.
Keep your laws off my body
Against abortion? -Don't have one.
If you can't trust me with a choice, how can you trust me with a child?

To answer your additional details, Condors are going extinct because of humans, didn't God tell us to care for the animals? Caring for them would involve preventing their extinction.
When humans are in danger of going extinct maybe the laws will change, yeah? and women will be forced to get pregnant.
Do you Christians spend any time at all worrying about all the kids in foster home or in need of adoption?
What is going to happen to all the unwanted children when you win and they all have to be born? You might feel better about yourself but they will suffer. Unless you have the pocketbook and time to take care of the 500,000 children in this country alone needing a home, and the thousands more you forced women to have.

No one should be forced to have children.

*GriN* and I think that your life actually started thousands of years before the time you were born.

actually a "beating heart" has nothing to do with life, a bacteria is alive for ex. and it does not have a heart, the question is not when it is alive, but when does it become a human being, I would say that involves the development of the brain

I firmly believe that the wiggley life begins with the active sperm, still contained in man. A man carries the tiny wiggley sperm that I refer , to the Soul. The tiny un-concieved Soul is contain in MAN. Then it is transfered and concieved into woman. The tiny life(Soul) is contained in Man. God gives great credit to the Man. So should we. I refer to the man as the containment vessel of the Souls.
