Not eternal punishment -- it's more like a temporary period of cleansing, similar to the Catholic Purgatory. But like the person above says, many of us don't believe in the afterlife, many believe in reincarnation, etc. No one has been there and returned to tell us what they found. The Christian concept of hell comes from either Mithras or Zoroastrianism. You'll find more here...

answer; HT is inaccurate once back - Judaism hasn't ever had a idea in an component of eternal torment. And he actually can't say that an appearing Orthodox rabbi, certainly rabbi and many different Jews in R/S are "secular". answer: there are one of those perspectives because the afterlife isn't defined in Judaism. maximum Jews do not concentration on the afterlife, they enable G-d problem about that. Jews concentration on the the following-and-now: protecting G-d's commandments, analyzing Torah, worrying for others and helping to fix the international. some Jews believe that when someone dies and they are righteous, they bypass to hitch G-d today. in the experience that they don't seem to be righteous they spend a couple of minutes faraway from G-d. some Jews believe that we enter a nap-like state till the Messiah/Messianic age and then connect interior the recent international to come back. some Jews position self belief in reincarnation till the Messiah/Messianic age or till one turns into righteous adequate to hitch G-d.

No...this is not a part of our tradition nor does the word "Hell" make an appearance in the Torah. We believe that you die......and the righteous are raised when the messiah comes and does his thing. If you are not righteous you do not get to join the party that happens, heaven on earth, when the messiah is in charge.

There are other significant differences between judaism and other religions as well. Christianity tends to want to prescribe behavior to follow and punish/scare those who do not tow the party line. Judiasm tends to say...look don't do these things and about everything else...have a good time. Be righteous by not doing bad things, murder, theft, etc, and you meet the messiah in the ned....very simple and easy rules to follow for most jewish sects.

There is not one united dogma about the afterlife or hell for Jews. However, many Jews believe in some kind of separation from G-d after dead for the souls of people who have done evil, until they figure out how to come to G-d.

But there is no eternal damnation, and non-Jews are not subject to any extra or special punishment.
