i just filed my taxes for 2006. i recently just received a w-2 from another job that i never worked. So now i might owe the IRS. How do i go about getting them to void the w-2 or any other solution to this problem?

First call the employer and find out who was working with your information. This person has committed felony fraud and should go to jail. It is possible that it was just a typo, but if they sent it to your address with your name on it, and your SSN, chances are someone has stolen and is using your identity. Once the employer finds out that they had incorrect information, they should notify the IRS. Tell them that you will follow up with the IRS in 24 hours. Then, call information and ask them for the 800 number to the IRS. Tell them that you never worked at the place and that they should contact that employer to determine who is using your information fraudulently.

After that, if the employer didn't just have a typo on a SSN and someone was actually using your information improperly, you might want to apply for a new SSN. This is a huge hassle, but will prevent other identity theft.

Call the company that issued the W-2 and ask them about it. It's possible that someone else has been working under your name and social security number. If that turns out to be the case, then contact the IRS.
