If your toddler's doctor does not see any problems, I would HIGHLY suggest you find a new doctor. I would suggest finding a doctor associated with the children's hospital in your area. I suggest a doctor that is associated with a children's hospital because it makes it easier for testing and getting results back sooner. Also, your doctor knows the best of the best in various areas......which beats seeing multiple doctors for the same problem.
You also might consider contacting the Early Childhood Intervention program in your state. If you cannot find contact information on-line, your school district should have all the information that you need.
Good luck!

I have a developmentally delayed daughter. She will be 3 next month, and she still only has a vocabulary of about 10 words. She is still somewhat unstable and falls quite a bit. Does your child have spells where it appears as if s/he is daydreaming? Might not last more than 10 seconds or so. My daughter does this, and we just found out is is petit mal seizures. Your child could have a neurological problem, and it is my feeling that you should have the child evaluated. Easter Seals or your local Childrens Hospital are good places to seek help.

I work for an Infant and Toddler program and I would contact the Early Intervention program in your county. If she is not using words, make sure that she is at least using gestures and pointing. When she appears to want something, even if you know what it is, either give her a choice between two or give her something you know she doesn't want, in order to spur her on to talk. So if you are offering her a choice between juice and milk, if she gestures towards the milk, you say, "Oh, MILK, you want MILK", so you are giving her a model at least twice of the label of the object she wants. Look up the Hanen Parent Program on the internet to get ideas of how to facilitate independent language and dont be afraid to start with signs. Studies show that gestural imitation precedes verbal imititation, so the sign language should help to facilitate vocal language, not replace it.

my son was talking but not using sentences, he had over a 500 word vocabulary, knew all his colors, numbers, couldcount to spanish to 11, knew 5 french words, could count to 35 unassisted, could site numbers by site by the time he was 2 but he wouldnt use structured language and he had some other things I was concerned about. He was diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorder last year right after he was 2.
My had a normal birth too, my son was clumsy and still is sometimes. YOU NEED to go to your peid and have him reccomend testing. EARLY intervention is the key

good luck honey and remember be strong shes gonna need ya!

Sounds to me like a possible developmental delay which is something that can be assesed by a professional and treated with no problem. It could also mean your child is taking their time. I would at least take the child to a primary care doctor a get a referral to a child development specialist.

Get her hearing checked. Our nephew was still not talking at the age of 3, went to see speech pathologist who recommended a hearing test. An audiologist was able to determine that he was about 60% deaf, he is doing fantastically with hearing aids and regular speech therapy.

This is not normal development for a child of this age. I would recommend you have her evaluated by her pediatrician. She could have an ear infection or other ear problems.
