I am a Christian, and I am being told over and over that drinking alcohol is a sin. So I was wondering exactly where in the bible it says this.

After all, Jesus died free from sin. Yet He drank wine at dinner, He turned water into wine, one of the main ingredients of the Last Supper was wine.

The bible talks about a difference between having a drink and being a drunkard. Here are some Scriptures to give you a good idea of God's position on this subject...

Psalms 104:15; " And wine that makes the heart of mortal man rejoice, To make the face shine with oil, And bread that sustains the very heart of mortal man."

Joel 3:18a; " “And it must occur in that day that the mountains will drip with sweet wine, and the very hills will flow with milk,"

1 Timothy 3:8: " Ministerial servants should likewise be serious, not double-tongued, not giving themselves to a lot of wine, not greedy of dishonest gain,'

1 Timothy 5:23; "Do not drink water any longer, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent cases of sickness"

From the above Scriptures I would draw the conclusion that wine is for our pleasure and can be medicinal when used in very moderate amounts...because look at the following verses and see what happens when one goes over board...

Matthew 24:28 & 49: "“But if ever that evil slave should say in his heart, ‘My master is delaying,’ 49 and should start to beat his fellow slaves and should eat and drink with the confirmed drunkards, 50 the master of that slave will come on a day that he does not expect and in an hour that he does not know, 51 and will punish him with the greatest severity and will assign him his part with the hypocrites. There is where [his] weeping and the gnashing of [his] teeth will be.'

1 Corinthians 5:11: "But now I am writing YOU to quit mixing in company with anyone called a brother that is a fornicator or a greedy person or an idolater or a reviler or a drunkard or an extortioner, not even eating with such a man. "

1 Corinthians 6:10: "What! Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, 10 nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God’s kingdom."

So please take notice of how serious it is to carry our drinking too far. Drunkards are listed right among the list of people who will not inherit God's Kingdom!

So use your own good judgement...drinking is not worth losing a good standing with God, and it can get out of hand very easily. A little wine as opposed to getting drunk makes a world of difference. I know many who only set out to have a drink and are now drunks!

Alcohol is not a sin.

Getting drunk is.
Eph 5:18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

But in Bible times, most people drank wine because the water wasn't clean. Jesus drank wine!

read the health regulations about eating fermented and halucinogenic fruits
see that the tree of good and evil was a frenented grape ,opr some other mind altering substance ,thus see adam and eve next morning hung over thinking the drunks memory of guilt od what they had done to who
re the wine ,read that jesus clearly says it is not yet my time
in other words do what you must but i dont care if you give them jars of handwashing water ,ie its not yet time ,thus he didnt do it.
also at his feast he says till end opf time to only drink the fresh blood of the grape [new wine] not the old fermented mind adulterating stuff [old whine]
using fermented wine as'' main course" the last supper would have turned into a barroom brwael ,as it was jesus as much as said to judus your it when he fed him the bread and washed his deciples feet
there is everthing given us in moderation
boose is not a main course ,be it wine or shampain or beer
is the highest calling of our christ to drunken love?
or sober consideraqtion to god and his grace.

There is nothing in the Bible that would prohibit one from drinking alcoholic beverages in moderation. There is a prohibition against drunkenness, however. (Galatians 5:21) This being true, "Why do we (myself included) teach that the drinking of alcohol is wrong?"

Keep in mind that it would be hard to find anyone who could say that no one in their family has ever been touched by the devastating effects of alcohol such as alcoholism, liver damage, death and injury of self and others. This being true, then we (God's children) should set the example as the light of the world and the salt of the earth. (Matthew 5:13-16) Although it might be permissible to drink alcoholic beverages in moderation, the question is "Is it beneficial to do so?" As the apostle Paul wrote, "Everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial. 'Everything is permissible but not everything is constructive. Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others." Possibly, your example of drinking alcoholic beverages might encourage someone who has a drinking problem to drink, and in so doing, your example might cause them to stumble. The apostle Paul wrote that it is better not to drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall.

I am with you...I am not sure that it says anything of the sort. The very first miracle that Christ performed was turning watere to wine at wedding. Now I think it if you drink a lot and become drunk and lose your inhibitions, that might be a problem.

wine is a mocker, strong drink is a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise. Proverbs 20:1. This is how some get confused the Bible does not prohibit drinking alcohol, but becoming drunk is not recommended.

You're right. One could argue that drunkeness is a sin. One could argue that underage drinking is a sin. But to say that a glass of wine with dinner is sinful is codswhallop.

Our Pastor did research on the wine in the Bible. To get drunk in the Bible you would have to drink 28 glasses of wine to our wine today. His was pure Juice, and didn't have the alcohol content in it.
