Microsoft is sold in 2 different versions. One for Windows and the other for the Mac operating system. They unfortunately don't sell a copy of Microsoft Office that will run on both Mac & Windows. So you will need the Mac version of Microsoft Office to put it on your Macbook.
If buying Office for Mac is too expensive. Here is a link to a free alternative called Open Office. It will do everything that I can think of that you will probably want to do Microsoft Office.

no, Microsoft makes Office for Mac (as well as Windows, just be sure to get Office for Mac.) The files made on one are readable on the other.

OFFICE 98 worked on a MAC since the beginning and the new OFFICE works perfect on MAC as well... there are always 2 choices for OFFICE, for WINDOWS or for MAC !
MAC is far superior each and every time ! NO DOUBT ! Enjoy !
