"When you quote a Bible verse, you need to make sure you are reading what it's really saying. For example, there are many verses where the speaker was being kind of sarcastic."

How do you know this? Jesus said that you must HATE your mother, father, brothers, and friends in order to be his follower. I don't see any verse where he said "Haha! Just kidding!"

"The Bible was is and always has been supposedly read with the abilitiy of the Holy Spirit."

In that case, nobody can ever read it, since the Holy Spirit is imaginary. Even if it weren't, how would it change the meaning of Jesus saying to hate your family? How would it lessen the shock of the Israelites, under GOD'S command, killing men, women, and boys and keeping the virgin girls as wives and concubines? (Num. 31)

"Because context is important. You could say that the Israelites killed many people and destroyed certain tribes. That sounds horrible, but then you find out that the tribes that were to be destroyed sacrificed their children to idols and enjoyed raiding, plundering and randomly killing the Israelites."

So, it's okay for God to tell the Israelites to kill the babies and children just because the adults sinned? It's okay for the Israelites to kidnap the virgin girls (probably none younger than 15-16) after slaughtering their families? THIS is OK with you?

"I find the most effective counter to it is "Great, then put it IN context for me please."

I have done this and, not surprisingly, they avoid responding, or else they resort to the ultimate Christian apologetic, "Well, God can do whatever he wants to." It should bother them that God WANTS to do horrible things to people all the time.

"On a lighter note, isn't it funny that the only poeple that seem to find contradictions in the Bible are the people that are purposly looking for them?"

One doesn't need to look far. Go to the gospels and tell me how many women first appeared at Christ's tomb, and what were their names.

Maybe because you are taking it out of context. Seriously, when trying to interpet what a verse means, you need to take into consideration the other verses that surround it. As well as, when it was written, who it was written for, the culture of the said people, the gammar style that is being used in the verse, and so much more at that.

On a lighter note, isn't it funny that the only poeple that seem to find contradictions in the Bible are the people that are purposly looking for them?

ok , for starters, just how much English have you had? When you say content, do you mean context? for example Jesus wept is in the bible I forget just now what chapter and verse it can be taken many ways but one must read the whole chapter to get the true meaning God gave you free will to do whatever and if you choose to make Him angry well that is your business as for you sanitise hm to death the word is SENTENCE BEST CHECK YOUR SPELLING and YOUR VOCABULARY cause you come across as really ignorant not only about grammar and English but your ideas about faith I will pray for you

You have to understand what Mankind has done to the bible.. They had removed pages, and chapters and entire books from the bible.. And because of that the bible does not always seem to be consistent. But it was not Gods doing it was mans...... And it is just not fair to judge God by mans action... I can see that you are full of hate and misunderstanding.. But in mans effort to seek equally with God and mankinds greed, Then to change things in the bible so that they can make people think that the only way to God is thru them.. Is a criminal act.. So your hate is really misplaced..

Christians have no valid responses to the multitude of contradictions and errors and god endorsed murder in the bible so they use blanket responses so they don't really have to think about it. Religions used to teach that every person should have a bible so they can find comfort or guidance in it whenever they feel the need. Now they are telling us we need an interpreter every time we open it. There's something wrong with this picture.

When you quote a Bible verse, you need to make sure you are reading what it's really saying. For example, there are many verses where the speaker was being kind of sarcastic. Also, many books like Ecclesiastes are a story of how they changed. They describe how they used to think, but that doesn't mean those ideas are true, because at the end of the book they say it was all wrong.

there is nothing in the bible that you could take out of content that hasn't been done by someone else. so dont feel so smug. you can make the bible say anything you want if you pick and choose the passages you want to use. you need to read the bible from front to back and ask god to show you the truth if you do that seriously he will show you

The Bible was is and always has been supposedly read with the abilitiy of the Holy Spirit.

If you dont have the Holy Spirit guiding you it is like a train going through a tunnel without lights. There could be something on the tracks to derail you. And that my friend is satan and your own ideals.
