Hi Angela...cats drool for various reasons, contentment, ingested toxins (poisoning), periodontal tooth and gum disorders, kidney failure, damage or paralysis of the trigeminal nerve (cranial nerve V), liver damage, etc. If you are unable to locate the owners consider having the cat evaluated medically as this could be a very life-threatening condition.
Additionally, the veterinarian hospital can check to see if the cat has been microchipped to help you locate the owners quickly.

see if you can get a look at it's teeth. Tooth decay causes drooling.
But some cat's just drool.
You can call and ask a vet, but if you want to bring it in to see the vet you will either have to pay for it or surrender the cat as a stray.

Yeah, sloppy kitty. Some of them are that way, they get all excited when they feel loved so they start to drool, LOL. I've had a few that drool when you pet them, while a couple of others start to get the nose drips because they are happy :) .
It sounds normal. Unless its behaviour is odd in a bad way, don't worry.

Drooling can be caused by many things, bad teeth for one. my cat drools when she purrs, she just gets so excited. I have 3 cats that were all strays at one time and they make the best pets. If you keep her, just please have her fixed and keep her indoors, she'll be healthier and happier.
