I just noticed that my cat has worms, I know it sounds gross, but does anyone know anything that I can give her to get rid of it, or something till I get to the vets? I have went to all sorts of pet stores and nobody seems to have any worm medication in stock, I guess it must be worm season. Any suggestions?

if it's long and round it's called round worms, if it's flat and long or looks like rice it's tapeworms. you can only get the meds from your vet. Tapeworms are not harmful at all. Roundworms can be after a long period of time it's not an emergency but get the meds as soon as you can.

Follow Phillip B's answer, but don't use a flea collar, fleas breed and hide under them, they are useless, also, don't allow your cats outside, and after the treatment, give the cats a bath. Sometimes if a cat gets fleas more than one time a year, or while fleas are present, the cats will get tape worms. After the frost the fleas will be gone and hope the following year will be a year without the fleas, Get them treated by the vet and do your part. Been there done that, didn't like it. Get a steam cleaner or rent one. Pick up all throw rugs, fleas hide under them, and really clean everywhere. Remember not to let your cats escape outside. Where I live, it is illegal to let cats run freely. I would move if I were you. In the mean time, I would try to talk to the other tennants. You are in a bad situation. Cats can't go untreated. Good Luck

And, this would most probably be because you should NOT attempt to do any kind of de-worming of a cat, you could kill her. Just calm down, call your vet, and get her in there asap. Rest assured, she is not going to die overnight because you just now detected these--they've obviously been there for a while, unknown to you. She will be just fine as soon as your vet does a de-worming treatment on her. Best of luck to you.

I would take your little furry friend to the vet just to get checked out and for some pills. Sometimes you need to get your cat a shot if it's a certain type of worm! Just to keep you and your cat healthy rake him/her in to the vet for the best care.

The best thing to do is to take her to the vet. A lot of the de-worming pills that they sell at places like wal-mart don't work very well and are a waste of money.

Hi there...tapeworms, roundworms and other intestinal parasites may require a broad spectrum dewormer that a veterinarian can prescribe if you bring in a fecal sample. Most over the counter dewormers tend to not be as effective for deworming and have been known to cause fatalities in cats if there are other hidden health dangers your cat may have. Consider ringing your veterinarian to see if you can arrange for an evaluation to determine what type of parasites your cat may have to be treated respectively.

They can also give the same medication as a shot, which is more practical and humane. Anyone who tried to get their pet to swallow a pill knows that a shot is a lot less traumatic then getting the poor kitty swallow a pill.
