I lived in DC for three years and I loved it. I recently moved to work for Yahoo and am presently in the Bay Area; I like it here as well but I do miss DC.
I lived in the NW quadrant (DC has 4 quads) right by Connecticut Ave, close to the UDC metro station. I know the NW part better than others but I have been to all parts.
In the day time, my favorite part was of course the Mall and all the monuments and museums around it. I also liked to make day trips to Georgetown and sometimes went kayaking in the Potomac river. At night, the best spots are Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan and Georgetown. Georgetown is upscale, very international crowd, sorta preppyish. Adam's Morgan is the opposite, grungy but fun. In my opinion, the best mix of nightclubs were at Dupont Circle. I liked 5 quite a bit, especially in the summer when they have drinks and dancing on the rooftop. There's quite a few others too, on the South side of Dupont Circle on Connecticut Ave.

I lived in Maryland for 4 years and really enjoyed myself in DC. So many things to do and see! Although, you will see the strangest things there. Poeple are very inconsiderate. And there is plenty of crime. There are some good spots and some not so good spots. And to think...the Capitol and White House is not too far off. That makes you wonder sometimes. But I agree as someone answered that it is overpopulated and traffic is horrible...especially on I95 (an interstate that runs in a complete circle around DC. I don't have a favorite part. But I really miss DC...The Go-Go music, night clubs, museums, entertainment, restaurants, architecture, beautiful brownstone, and most of all...Baltimore. And If you ever have a chance, go visit the Inner Harbour, Baltimore.

We live in northern Virginia, so go into DC frequently for plays, restaurants and museums. Traffic is bad in the daytime, and police are quick to ticket, so mass transportation (Metro rail, bus) is best. Parking is expensive. Like all big cities, there are certain parts of the city that you don't want to be in at night, but most of the city is safe. Daughter lives in DC and loves it. Her neighborhood (NW) is changing rapidly. They're converting or tearing down a lot of the older buildings to create condos.

DC is changing, non blacks are moving in at a high rate. But I love DC still. I'm from Annapolis, Md and as kid I would travel to DC every weekend. I would move to DC if i could afford it. Just like everywhere you go you have your good parts and bad parts. Yes, I been to all parts of DC and each part offer some different.

Washington DC is technically Washington, District of Columbia, but it isn't called as either Washington D.C. or D.C., as it is the sole city in the District of Columbia. The District of Columbia isn't part of any state, but it is a federal district that borders Maryland to the north, east and west and borders Virginia to the south. The White House, and most other federal government buildings (other than regional offices), are located in Washington D.C.

I grew up right outside of DC and I think it's a great city to visit but not so great to live there. However, besides my family and friends who still live there, the one thing I miss the most about DC is the Smithsonian.

I'm working on my 7th year in the DC metro area. I still have mixed feelings about it.
I think it's a great place to work, live and there are tons of things to do.
My problem is with the PEOPLE. They are simply not very nice. It's like they've forgotten the rules of common courtesy. Maybe it's their government jobs bringing them down. Maybe it's the fact that so many people move in and out of here that you don't have a chance to get to know anyone. Whatever the case, people here can be rude.

I think it's a very interesting city. I have only been there once, and mostly what I saw was various parts of the Smithsonian, as well as the capital and similar places that you'd expect a tourist to go. I hope I get to go back some day and see a lot more of it.

I have been to D.C. many many times...all parts. I do like it. It is very beautiful, especially in the spring.
Although, it is way overpopulated, traffic is terrible, and house prices are outrageous!
