Obsessive/compulsive disorder. There is medication that can help with this problem/ It can be very debilitating to people! The person needs to get help from therapy as well as medication.

It's a neurosis in which a person feels compelled to repeat ritualistic behaviour that he/she gets absolutely no pleasure from (and lots of anxiety instead!).
There is both pharmaceutic and behavioural therapy for this disorder, which ranges from mild to severe.

As others have stated above, it is Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. This is when you cannot fight the need to do something over and over. It's very common, and a popular med for this is Zoloft. Hope this helps.
