Hi Tracy...cats who drink excessive amounts of water and have a dramatic weight loss may be a result of either a result of Chronic Renal Failure (CRF) or hyperthryroidism, diabetes, etc and all are very life-threatening if not treated immediately.

I've been raising cats all of my life. Usually when they start drinking a lot of water and lose that much weight it is more than likely a kidney problem. I would also check the litter box and see if there is a strong odor from it urinating. I however do suggest to take the cat to the vet as soon as possible, because this could be an extremely serious situation! I had 2 cats that wound up in kidney failure and this is how it started. Also, look and see if it's sides are sinking in and if it is having trouble walking. I hope I've been some help.

How old is your cat?

Please take it to the vet ASAP, as it may well have diabetes and this can be diagnosed quite quickly, and will save a lot of agony for both you and your cat. He's probably feeling really rotten.

If he does turn out to be a diabetic, feel free to email me for any tips you may want. I have a diabetic 11 yr old cat who is happy as larry, acting like a kitten at the moment.

Good luck.

The cat desires to make certain a vet. After no longer ingesting for 3 days, she is in large probability - she desires nutrients in her, she likely desires some fluids in her, and a vet desires to decide what's incorrect jointly with her. I understand we are going right into a weekend - please agenda an appointment for monday, in case you may't locate a vet it truly is open on saturday or sunday. interior the advise time, attempt to get her to eat. bypass purchase some fancy banquet - that stuff in many cases has about almost as good a probability as any of eye-catching an truly ill cat to eat. with slightly of success she will be in a position to make it by ability of the weekend in case you may get her to eat. blending some canned nutrients blended with a touch water to a milkshake consistency, then sucking it up a syringe and squirting it one ml or cc at a time into the nook of her mouth is yet in a special way. without going to a vet, she will be in a position to in all probability be lifeless in short order. If no longer something else, a minimum of enable her be euthanized somewhat than going out in the type of depressing way. My cat is 16 and in basic terms about died very last february. Like yours, she hadn't been to a vet in years, and that i hate to confess it. My mothers and fathers by no ability felt cats well worth spending funds on, and being a broke college student I wasn't keen for it to be my funds both. although, after also vomiting and by no ability ingesting for 3 days instantly, she went, became clinically determined with kidney failure, and is now doing more effective perfect than she has for years - she weighs more effective, eats more effective, and feels more effective perfect, and could stay for a lengthy time period to come back now that her situation is being mananged. She sees a vet each six months to judge her progression. If in common words she were stepping into many cases, we may have prevented her close to lack of life adventure with early detection.
