I am facing a kidney transplant sometime this year if all goes well and I pass all the test they plan to put me through. I just wanted someone who has been through this already to please give me some idea what's a head of me. I was scared already before I learn all the things that can go wrong after the transplant. So if anyone knows anything please don't keep it to yourself, let me know what I am facing.

my cousin had a kidney transplant one year ago and she is living normally, after the transplant you might need special living style due to the fact that you will be on immunosupressants,so you will need to take caution will contacting people, the dose of the drug will be then gradually reduced until you stop them .

I don't have a whole lot of information for you, but I can encourage you, as I have a best friend that had a kidney transplant five to six years ago!
Her complaints were that she got diabetes from the transplant; and that she has to take so many medications for the kidney not to be rejected! But over all, she is doing fantastic, and she is still alive! Which she is the happiest about. She had gotten cancer in her kidney and they then they both failed. The other thing she said, no matter how many pills I have to take, AT LEAST I DON'T HAVE TO DO DIALYSIS ANY MORE!!!!!! She is vey active, and leads a normal life. She has other health issues, but not caused by the kidney transplant. She thanks her God, Jehovah every day for making a provision for her to still be alive!!!!!!!!
I also have only one kidney, and I am in chronic kidney failure, which is scary to me.

OH BOY you're in for a ride, my father had kidney transplant 16 years ago and it's now starting to fail, ok first of all the medication they will put you on will mess with your mood, you will become irritable and have a short temper. the meds will also mess with your breath, the uric acid so you may be prone to gout, it will make you nauscious most of the time and you will retain some if not a lot of water in your feet, hey this is all worth it, it's better than being on dialysis, your family will need to be very supportive and understanding, we were and my Dad is a trooper, i can go on and on but i'm limited to characters here so email me if you have any questions i'll do the best i can to answwer them....good luck

Also there's a chance your implanted Kidney could reject...it happened to my aunt twice

My mom was one of the early successes with kidney transplants. She lived for 10 years afterwards, which was a record at the time. The prednazone that she had to take bloated her face considerably, and there were mood changes. Eventually she settled down, though, and lived a comfortable life to the end. She died at age 62.

I'm sure there have been many advances since then. Best wishes.

My mum has gone through Kidney transplant 3 year ago, I have got some information about the diet. You need to be very careful on the food intake, there are some food that must be avoid. 1) ginseng 2) Star fruit 3) Plum 4) chinese Mushroom, 5) chinese medical. My mum get muscle pain, she went for acupuncture and eat some chinese medicine, 1 week late her creatine increase till 220 which the doctor did mention that chinese medical cannot be taken without any advice from the doctor. Recently my mum did admit to hospital because there are one germ entered into her kidyney, we still not sure where the virus entered into her body. I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.
